Guest guest
Ann, I am guilty of asking some of those questions. I just got my patient manual and have finished reading it. I agree much of this is in the manual. And Dr. R's website is fantastic in also answering questions. I guess some of us are deciding whether this surgery is the right decision. Getting others opinions and experiences just isn't the same as reading stats. Just my opinion. Sue MGB hopeful. Appealing insurance.
Guest guest
Ihave been reading this post for a couple of months now and the one thing I have noticed is::(and I hope no one gets mad at me) most of these questions are answered in the patients manual.ie.Sodas, straws, how long on liquid diet.etc.Maybe I'm just a little more thurough than the average person on reading that thing. Hope i didn't offend anyone. Ann in Ok.
Guest guest
Hi, I'm guilty of asking some of those questions, even though I've read everything, sometimes it just makes you feel better hearing from someone that has been through it. Just my 2 cents. I do thank all of you that answer the repeat questions. Tonni
Guest guest
Yes, Richmond says don't drink them. I think they are wrong, to be putting it politely. I had fun with my surgeon the last time I saw him, after not having seen him for a year. I had to tell him " Yeah Doc, you're right. Those protein drinks are making me SO FAT! " There was more than a trace of sarcasm. At this point I have no more excess weight to lose except in my thighs, and that's going to require plastic surgery. Wehn I was researching and preparing for the surgery, there were a couple of groups I looked at, including one that you couldn't post to until at least a year after your surgery. There are lots of groups that will talk about immediately post-op (I'm losing my hair, what can I eat at two months out, etc.), but I wanted to know what was going on with long-term posties. Through that group, I have gotten to know many people who are several years post-op, and you know what? Of all the successful ones, who are healthy and maintaining their weight loss, there is only ONE who is not drinking protein shakes. Hm, if you want to be successful, it makes sense to me to follow what successful people do. Now it is true that there is a HUGE difference in protein shakes. Some surgical programs even recommend Carnation Instant Breakfast! Obviously they have NOT read the label on those things! Low protein, in a form we can't even absorb that well, high sugar, even in the No Sugar Added varieties. What we absorb best is the whey protein sources. I can send you details on brands and online sources if you want. Regarding vitamins, I'd say yes, take them now! Anything you can do to make your body as healthy as possible going into surgery will help your healing process go that much better and quicker. Hope that helps! -- Eleanor Oster eleanor@... Guest guest
When i went to south san francisco for my appt with the nutritionist, one thing i told her was how i have a hard time doing the breakfast thing and she suggested i substitue the breakfast meal with a protein shake...........................I havent heard anyone say they gain weight because of them but i know richmond does not promote them or kind of allow them post op after the surgery is over much colleen wrote: From what I understand Richmond doesn't like the shakes at all. Theweird part is they said they were full of calories and such and theone I take is only 110 for 23 g of protein. I have one every morninglike clockwork.SSF says they are fine. So who knows.
