Wow! June or July, I did not realize NWH was scheduling that far out... It sounds like you have the right attitude and weight loss prior to surgery is always a plus [coming from a post-op who gained 16lbs in the 6 weeks prior to surgery!]....

Hi Eva

I had upper & lower Leforte with splitting. The splint will be on till 11/22

then I'm wired for another 2 weeks. I had very little pain, but so much

discomfort. I was very congested, and the decongestants are just not

sufficient. I also can;t blow my nose for 2 weeks because of the stitches. It

was worse last week. But my upper palate & throat are swollen and congested -

a lot of mucus keeps dripping down my throat, which makes it hard to sleep.

Also my mouth is open all the time unless I consciously close it and then I

sleep it opens and I get a very dry throat which is actually painful. I was

so very swollen -- now I still look like a chipmunk but not as bad as last

week. But I am still numb -- jaw, chin (up to my lower eyelids), cheeks. I

stayed in the hospital 2 days - I needed to.

If I were you I would E mail at Zip 7 Squeeze. She is so nice and

helpful she will send the items Fed Ex if you have a credit card. I know it

is expensive but it is really helpful, especially the jaw wrap. If she sends

them now you would get it the 3rd day after surgery -- not bad.

I was in Germany twice - once in Bavaria, once in Hamburg. Lovely

countryside, lovely people and the cake in Bavaria was just wonderful! Can't

wait to eat again!

Good luck

Boy can I identify with you. I too am having trouble with the exercise.

I was never all that active but I could at least walk.....now I get so

tired - and I am 2.5 monthes out. Of course it doesnt help I have

arthritis in knees and hips, the hips really hurt when I walk more than

a block.

I do own a pool and can swim, and I know this is going to sound whiney,

but now I always feel so darn cold!! The idea of getting ihn the pool if

the temp is under 90 makes me shiver. Well, whine whine whine.......I

wish I had advice for you but maybe someone out there will give us some

ideas or verbally kick us in the butts!!

Sounds like you had a dumping episode - probably from the milk. Most of

us are lactose intolerant after surgery - and milk is just lactose

which is a sugar!! Bummer, huh? I was craving milk the first few weeks.

Could practically taste it going down......(I love milk, oh well!)

Your weight loss is fine. I too was a fairly slow loser and still am

(2.5 monthes out) . You will find that it will not be a steady thng,

this losing weight. You will have plateuas when you lose nothing, you

will have weeks where you lose like crazy, others when you lose the

reccommended 3-6 lbs. Your age makes a difference (boo hoo for me), the

older the slower. Your metabolism is just fighting the change in your

body - dont worry - it will come off.

Please keep me informed of your progress!

Coral,

Any time your child eats a new food for the first time, and you see some unusual

behavior, it certainly could be related. Hopefully, as time goes on, he will be

able to tolerate some of these foods better. In the meantime, make only ONE

change at a time..... and keep a detailed food journal with behavioral notes.

I remembered my son ate raw peeled peaches today for the first

time... Could that have caused the tantrum?

Hi Judy,

It is awesome that you haven't weighed or measured your food; be sure to give yourself credit for that huge step!!!

Being fearful of hunger signals; if you can try and say to yourself that feeling of hunger is a welcome sign that you can nurture yourself by eating, and by providing for yourself, that may help. When you feel hungry, I think, you don't have to have a worry about gaining weight by eating because, after all, you are hungry because your stomach is empty, or nearly so, and your body needs fuel. So eating is the most normal and natural thing to do. If you also, as you're eating, pay very close attention to filling up sensations in your stomach, you'll begin to get cues from your body on when you've become "just satiated" (this part takes longer to get the hang of and I'm still working at it myself).

Try and think of what beliefs you hold that are getting in the way of your eating whatever you want when hungry. There's a great book where she deals with beliefs about food and eating; it's "The Rules of Normal Eating" by Koenig. I am reading it now She talks about how naturally normal eaters don't worry about what they are eating and they make all kinds of food choices and don't balloon up because of it.

It sounds like you're really concerned with minute by minute, or at least day by day weight fluctuations and maybe that's partly why its so hard to give up the scale. Also it sounds like you want a very tight control over your weight.

If you can change your view of weight a bit to think of it as a long range goal, try and relinquish some of that need to control, and realize the little ups and downs along the way won't matter because you'll end up at a good, natural, normal weight for your body as you become an intuitive eater. It will take time, and there may be some temporary weight fluctuation as you're learning the approach, but if you can begin to trust that this will work and you will come to a nice, comfortable, normal weight, that would help a lot.

It would mean giving up some control; or idea that you have more control than anyone reallly has over weight. Trade in some of this need to control weight for trust in this intuitive process and especially trust that your weight will end up just fine; you will be ok. Plus our attempts to control weight always cause us so much grief and backfire anyway; if it did work you wouldn't have come here.

I don't know if you'll be size 2 or 4, but society is SICK when everyone is supposed to be size 2 or 4. Part of being happy with a normal, sane, natural weight is rejecting our crazy society's warped, narrow minded message about what body size we need to be. And rejecting it every time we start to believe it, again, and again , and again......

Good luck! You're doing just fine; you made some great first steps! Keep going with it!

Laurie,Thanks for the great feedback. I know it's not going to be an easy process but with so much encouragement it makes it alot easier. All I know for sure is I can't go back to dieting, its truly a losing battle and unfortunalty it's not weight were losing. So I keep going forward thanking God or the universe that I'm alive today after all the abuse I have put my body through. Thanks so much

Those are very wise words!! I totally agree and it's a big deal that you know this about dieting.
