That, I believe, could be "mouth hunger", which I find 4 me is usually an emotional need that needs attention, not my mouth needing entertainment... Maybe try journalling your thoughts and feelings that lead up to when you feel this way. It could also be that you need to better match your breakfast or snack to your real food wishes.Good luck, I'll be waiting to hear how it goes. Hi Eliza,

That feeling might have something to do with your diabetes. I don't have

diabetes but I think i have had the feeling of being full and hungry at the same

time -- especially when i've been eating a lot of sugar or junk food. I think

some people get blood-sugar cues for hunger that might conflict with other cues,

so maybe it's worth looking into from a diabetes point of view.

whenever that happens to me, i usually just wait it out and probably eat

something, but that might not work for you. it's definitely uncomfortable.

(or like brenda said, it might be mouth hunger, too, if you think there is some

emotion making you want to eat.)

I have found that if I eat something like lots of lettuce (big salad), I can

feel 'full' yet still hungry (body not satisfied). If you think about it, there

is a difference between 'bulk' (quantity) and satisfying (type of food).

Conversely, you can get satisfied (body hunger met) from eating something

'filling' (cheese) but still remain 'hungry' in taste hunger (didn't get to eat

what you really wanted). I'm beginning to think that the word hunger needs to be

'expanded' like the word snow is for eskimos! (separate/different words for

different types of).

Odd enough that you may be right. I even keep ask myself what do I want to eat?

I even eat salad only the catch I use addition such chicken strips or clams,

tomatoes, onions, and others. With my favorite salad dressing Ranch. Health food

yeah but that does the wonderful satisfy with. However, it's depend on mood from

time to time. Though lately I have had lack of interest in foods but I know I

have to eat at least something without feel starving from lack of eating.

You may be right. Worth to find out when I write down in my journal. I have been

so busy lately with college stuff. I will make certain sure that I will have

time and writing down. Though first thing off my mind is that for first time in

4 years since I am being single and out of domestic violence situation. I am

happy for first time yet lonely in a way however I have my cat who had stuck

with me for past 10 years through bad and good times.

Another thing that this month and year is for first time in past 20 years since

my mother died. May 22, 1989 that was when she died and I have had very bad day

that time. Because of the foster mother call me names for knew when my mother

died. She call me so many names to the point it hurt so bad. Although I was

stuck with her for 3 years and it was hell.

It could be mouth hunger, however, it could also be low blood sugar.

Sometimes when I really crave sweets or something else and " can't get it

out of my head even though I don't feel physically hungry " , I check my

readings and find that they're quite low.

I hate when this happens. My body sends me two signals at the same time:

" Full stomach -> don't eat! "

" Low blood suagr -> eat! "

Confusing and not really good for building up trust. :-/

Yes, I am diabetic for almost 2 years. Although for my sugar never once got low.

Never once and they always high or normal but never low since I find out that I

am diabetic.

I have acknowledge that I am an emotional eater. I even would eat anything just

out of bored. So, I have had find something to do while bored to avoid eating. I

got approved into DV organziation for volunteer job which I have one other class

to take before I can taking any phone answers for those people who are in needs

talk to someone. Also another thing that I do have very bad situation for so

long I have come out of that situation last actually almost 6 years ago and

there is much for me to deal with this one step at a time. Although I am getting

a lot better and able to deal with foods better.

I am glad that you have figure it out. I too figure it out each emotion at a

time and even boring moment as well. This take time and I have had started IE

about 2 months ago. Yeah, this will take time for me to get there where I want

to be as I accept that it will take time to process whether it is slow or fast.

Either way that will work just fine for me.

I deal with desire to eat sometimes even when I'm "full." Right now today I'm working on waiting until I'm hungry to eat. The problem is when I do eat, the "taste buds" are excited and I can overeat. Or stop after the full signal is there. But you know what? I'm thinking that the "sigh" factor is not there. Because the real cue is: How do you know when you're satisfied? Yes, I've been noticing this too...feeling hungry and full at the same time. I think, for me, most times that it's something other than hunger. So, I've been waiting it out. The longer I wait it out the more it seems to be head hunger. I try to figure out what I'm feeling (usually boredom or the mourning of continual eating). I try and feel those feelings and do something besides eat to deal with those feelings. I find that if it's truly "empty stomach" hunger, that comes up for real in a short time.

It's hard, because I still want to fill all my time with eating, as I did that for the past 30+ years (minus the times I was dieting). Actually even with dieting...I would chomp on Weight Watchers low point foods..anything to keep eating. Every emotion for me was filled with food, and I know it's going to take a lot of work and patience with myself to retrain myself not to use food for everything. I want the food to be for hunger, enjoyment and satisfation when I really need it.

So, bottom line for me, the hunger/fullness at the same time is usually something other than physical hunger. This may not be for everyone else, but it is for me.

Thanks for letting me share this. Somehow saying it out loud makes me more aware, so I can deal with this better each time it comes up.

Hi, Eliza. You talk about figuring things out. it is taking me a lifetime to figure things out. Oh, but we're talking about food here. OK.Today my husband brought home a big sandwich for me to eat. I asked for it, because I cannot cook or shop right now since I broke my foot, and a local restaurant was having a 2 for 1 sale. The sandwich he brought me home was really big, on a big bagel filled with turkey breast & veggies & cheese. It was very good.However, as i was eating it I began to feel full. And the thought occurred to me that I really shouldn't finish it. But then I got anxious thinking, 'what am I going to do with it?' I can't throw it out ... or can I? And then I thought ... well, I'm home now, not in a restaurant, and anyway, why can't I save the rest for later when I get hungry again? And so I put aside the rest of the sandwich for

Hi, . Today I ate one half of a big bagel sandwich for lunch. And I wasn't feeling quite that full, but full enough to know that I'd overeat if I kept eating. Now, about 1/2 hr. later I am REALLY FULL ... and so there is simply no way that I'd want to eat more right now. i'm glad I stopped when i did. Thanks for your thought. What I've been finding, for me... is when I'm not sure if I'm feeling full/satisfied or still hungry...is I stop eating for about 10 mins. (not necessarily easy to do that). But, if I'm truly full, I know it after 10 mins. because I lose my desire to eat. If after 10 mins. I'm still struggling with full/hungry, I realize I still have some hunger.

Again, this is what works for me.

I have had 6 years since figure which trigger my emotion and work on it then

move on next one. As I mentioned before I have had many things in the past

include childhood sexual abused and there one book that a woman from another

group really excellent made suggest this. " The Obsidian Mirror " I have had cried

severeal times because I understand the feels what one had gone through.

Although I have had started IE 2 months ago and I already noticed some of the

changes had already happens. Today for one at first before I even started eat

lunch. I was hungry and decide make a cup of soup. I only eat half of it for

some reason my stomach feel ENOUGH of it and I did throw it away because I did

thought of save it for later. My stomach feel like gags the thought of save soup

for later and still am full for how long. Who knows.

Someone recently posted another signal (can't remember who it was) but it was

that another signal is that the food stops tasting good or stops tasting SO

good. I think that is a signal i can relate to better than the " sigh " signal,

at least where I'm at in this. Try that one on maybe?

I know a big challenge for me is that I am off work and it is almost "dinner time", but I am not really physically hungry. However, I am emotionally hungry. Well, I am not going to eat until I know for sure that my stomach is sending me real hunger signals. This is not easy for me right now. I don't know when I will actually get hungry. It may be in a few minutes, a few hours, or who knows; maybe not at all tonight. But I will honor those real hunger signals when they come. In the mean time, since I have already done my exercise for the day and it's 100 degrees out, I think I will keep reading the IE book....;).TimSent from my iPod

I can relate to being emotionally hungry and not physically hungry. I wanted to eat before, but I realized I was not really hungry so I held off. Now I'm getting hungry, it's a few hours later and I'm getting hungry, noticing the stomach growling. (I slept in the meantime, because I have a broken foot and can't do much of anything outside or inside the house.) this proves one thing to me -- I used to have a dream of taking a cruise on a steamer or work ship and having nothing to do but read. Now I know I probably won't read that much. :-) Cindi
