Hi --

In response to your question, I have a mostly vascular

component with some blemishes (though I don't get

pimples--just those crazy little bumps) and virtually

no ocular symptoms. However, on occasion, I do get

watery, burning eyes and my eyelashes tend to drop off

fairly frequently. These symptoms are extremely mild.

I don't have any of the other symptoms ocular

sufferers have described.

About stress and illness--stress definitely makes my

rosacea worse, I flush more easily, have more

inflammation, and more blemishes. Physiologically,

stress can contribute to disease in many ways.

Primarily, the substances that are released into the

body during times of stress can end up producing free

radicals which are basically like leftover components

of biochemical reactions that can be toxic to the

body. If your eliminative functions are being

overloaded by these free radicals because of

inordinately high or prolonged stress, these toxic

substances can build up in the body. That's why

antioxidants are so key to maintaining good

health--they scavange free radicals. There's also a

connection b/n stress and immune function--the higher

the stress levels, the more taxed your immune system

becomes. With some of your basic frontline defenses

compromised like this, you can become susceptible to

infections you are normally able to fight off. Plus,

when you feel psychologically and emotionally

stressed, your behaviors often change to the detriment

of your health--i.e., you don't sleep as much or as

well, you don't eat right, you stop exercising. All

these factors of course contribute to your body's

response to the stressor itself. It's a complicated

dance of psychology and physiology, and I think

researchers and clinicians are just now beginning to

chip away at uncovering the underlying mechanisms.

It's quite fascinating, though.

I didnt catch the post from Joy yet, but I have a vascular component to

this. I think we all do to some extent. From what I can tell from ALOT of

reading and researching, rosacea is a vascular disorder. BTW, I have the

ocular component.

For info for 's poll, my rosacea is primarily flushing. Mine gets

better in winter and worse in the summer heat and humidity. I have not yet

had eye problems (knock on wood) and I truly hope I never do because I

already wear contacts for near-sightedness. My heart goes out to everyone

who has to struggle with eye discomfort on a daily basis.

I have no eye problems, mainly blushing from anxiety in large groups and I

suppose heat can do it, but I've mostly noticed the anxiety thing as my main

trigger. Being out in wind and sun does it too.

Good luck with your interview! Try to not worry about it. Worried anxious

thoughts breed anxiety and fear! I believe if I could calm my thoughts in

large groups I wouldn't get red. I'm not there yet, but maybe someday.

P.S. I hope I'm directing this to the right person, I'm a little fast in my

deleting tonite!:)

My facial symptoms are similar to 's, and I too have very few eye

problems -- some telangiectic vessels behind the eyelids, a bit of scaling

around the eyelashes which is easily removed with a washcloth or QTip, and

eyelashes which drop off, then seem to regenerate. One bit of commonality

with - my own symptoms, flushing and redness, initially flared up as

I was recovering from a prolonged illness -- bronchitis and upper

respiratory infections. Everything but the flushing went away; I still have

flushing now, four years later. I had been having some redness problems long

before the illness, but they became extreme just after the illness. Don't

know if there is a connection. However I *am* seeing a pattern of few

reported eye problems in flushers, after having read these messages for a

while.

Like Cenia, I'm a blusher/flusher and have almost no ocular symptoms.

hi

I'm not sure if I have eye problems or not. Sometimes they're red, but I

don't know if that's due to allergies. I am able to wear contacts, however.
