Guest guest
Hi Gang! Geoff here. Has anyone tried the " Leg Massager " , a combination electro-air sleeve? It looks similar to an air cast with a fat shoe. Apparently you put it on, plug it in and relax as it works. It looked like it might be handy for edema, etc., and it's being advertised for < $40. Guest guest
The leg massager looks interesting. A physio tried something like that on my ankle a few times and it was helpful. However, the best thing that I have found for edema (I have lymphedema in my right forearm due to damage in my elbow) is manual lymphatic drainage, a highly specialized form of gentle massage that allows the lymph vessels to drain better, thereby moving fluid and toxins out of the tissues. You must, however, find a person who is trained in the proper technique. (RA 25+ years, AP since Nov. 97) rheumatic Leg Massager > Hi Gang! Guest guest
I saw the massager in " Dr. Leonard " for $100+. If it is for real, it sounds good. My feet and legs could sure use the massage.
Guest guest
My husband pointed this out to me the other day as he was watching the T.V. advertisement. We're thinking it might help our daughter's edema in her feet. I'm always hesitant, though, to buy this type of merchandise with just a television commercial in support of it. What do YOU think? Guest guest
Dear , The type of massage you talk about--which causes lymphatic drainage--I have seen done by a physiotherapist. This was when our daughter was getting P.T. and we were trying to address the problem of the edema in her feet. After demonstrating, the therapist had me try it. It's a very gentle caress actually, starting at the toes and working upward with light strokes. Unfortunately, I can't be with my daughter often enough to do this, so unfortunately we let it slide. Don't know how well I'd have developed the technique either. You're right, though; this could probably work if done properly and regularly. Ellen rheumatic Leg Massager > Hi Gang! Guest guest
I have lymphedema in my lower legs as a result of non-hodgkin's lymphoma and the massage therapist taught me how to do the technique myself as well as some exercises to do that help the lymph flow. Lying on your back and doing bicycles in the air is the most helpful. Carol/Piney rheumatic Leg Massager > > > > Hi Gang! Guest guest
Update on the massager. I found it! It is called a Chi Swing Shaker. You can find it on-line at www.ultimate watermassage.com/chi-machines- standard.htm. I know my ALS patient swore by it, and he bought it off of E-Bay. Has anyone else had any experience with it? On top of that, it is not too expensive - $199.99. Tinka > > Hi, > > I had an ALS patient, who had a leg massager. It was a vibrating > machine onto which he placed his ankles. Guest guest
Thanks for replying. What does it do for you, so I can tell my SMA patient.
