Guest guest
I had a horrible weekend- spent most of it in tears. I have to take my son for a dylexia assessment which finally shows that yes he needs help despite a gifted IQ. That was ok and i'm glad there will now be ressources for him at school since it has fallen on me all the other years and i've been pushing boulders uphill with my nose up to now to get this diagnosis. However when the psychologist did the background assessment she focussed on my problems and how my illness has an impact on the family. Yes, the family is affected in a major way but there seemed to be an undertone of 'pull yourself together' becuase it isn't helping anyone to 'act helpless.' Also becuase i have gained so much weight in the past year it was -it won't help your health any and 'stop nibbling all day when you are stuck in the house'. the fact is my appetite is non existant and i have to force myself to eat most of the time but still the weight piles on. It really hit me yesterday and i was just loaded with guilt-the fact is if i could wake up tomorrow free of this disease i would do so and if sheer determination brought back all the functions i have lost they would be here by now.. My dr tells me that i have not to do too much as i will just set back my recovery and yet why do i listen to someone with only a hazy idea of how this disease works and how it affects me in particular. Also taht makes assumptions that becuase i am heavy that i don't want to exercise rather than am not able to exercise at the moment Its this idea folk have that thyroid problems are the best kind of chronic disease since they are so easy to treat-just one pill and its all sweetness and light and folk running about and doing exotic sports like in adverts i don't know why i'm moaning at everyone here-you all know what its like........ Guest guest
i'm sorry to hear that. your psychologist was well-intended but obviously has only half a clue about thyroid disease. i suppose she thinks it's the easiest thing in the world to treat. i hope you find the right doctor and get treated properly. is it very difficult? the resources are out there...the broda barnes org, the wilson's website, all have referrals to practicing physicians on a state by state basis. considering how much you are suffering, it's worth the trouble and expense. after 2 years of dicking around with morons who reacted to me the same way your dr's have been reacting to you, i got a list and saw an osteopath a couple weeks ago and it was the best decision ever made. i would love to be able to prescribe such hope and optimism for everyone still looking for that right doc. best, baron > > I had a horrible weekend- spent most of it in tears. > I have to take my son for a dylexia assessment which finally shows that > yes he needs help despite a gifted IQ. > That was ok and i'm glad there will now be ressources for him at school > since it has fallen on me all the other years and i've been pushing > boulders uphill with my nose up to now to get this diagnosis. > However when the psychologist did the background assessment she > focussed > on my problems and how my illness has an impact on the family. Finally they have decided that his dyslexia and dyspraxia is 'bad enough' to do something about but its somehow also linked to me being ill -the fact that he would have been completely failing in everything if i hadn't been helping him over the years and continually boosting his confidence seems to have escaped them =( Annoying! -- Alison http://www.alisonashwell.com new work uploaded http://www.artwanted/alisonashwell
