Guest guest
This was a very difficult time for my and dh. They noticed there was a problem when I went for my u/s and couldn't get a clear pic of the head. They had me drink more water and wait a while. When they still couldn't get a clear pic the doc told me what she suspected it was (anencephaly), and wanted me to go to UNC at Chapel Hill for another u/s. This was back in 1989 when u/s machines weren't as good as they are now. We went up there and they confirmed the diagnosis, which was caused by spina bifida. Some children with spina bifida can lead fully productive lives, it just depends on where it is located on the spine. Melody's was near the very top, which didn't allow for any skull bones on the upper portion of her head, thus resulting in the anencephaly. I think the thing that helped me get through this was the fact that we knew about it when I was 5 months pregnant. I didn't have to come home to a nursery filled with baby things. I was also very young at the time, 19. The whole situation brought me and dh so much closer it's unbelieveable. I remember becoming very depressed about it 3 months later and telling dh that my arms just felt so empty after going through the pregnancy and delivery, he did something I will always remember - he took my b/c pills and threw them in the trash and took me to bed. My son arrived a year and a week to the day after Melody was born. I'm sorry to rattle, I know this is a b/fing board, but sometimes it helps to talk about her. Your story touched my heart. It sounds like you have a wonderful husband I am so glad he was such a support through your horrable ordeal. I htink it is good that you look at it that it was better at 5 months then when her entire room was all done putting the baby stuff away would have been WAY TO MUCH to handle. Guest guest
Hi, I am le, I was a member several months ago, but had to leave for a while. I am a 24 yo mother to 3. Marisa is 4 and just started pre-K. Jordan is 16 months and is still nursing. I also have Christian who is 8 weeks and nurses also. I am interested in hearing if others tandem nurse also. Anyway, Christian was born at home weighing 6 lbs and 13 oz and 19 in long. As of his 7th week he was up to 11 pounds and 3 oz so I believe he is really thriving on breastmilk. Oh yeah dh is Isaac and we just had our 4th anniversary yesterday. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know everyone. Dani

Guest guest
Hi everyone and thank you for the welcome, I'm , am 32 and mother to a five year old, and Matilda who is 7 weeks weeks old today and wife to Tim. We live in Perth Western Australia and at present I am a stay at home mum and love it. I am breast feeding Matilda and hope to continue for as long as she wants to.I breast fed until seven months old when I went back to work and she was weaned onto formula despite my attempts at expressing which were unsuccessful. Matilda has just been diagnosed with gastric reflux and is on prepulsid four times a day. It has made a big different to our feeding times and her settling and sleeping. I am finding feeding alot easier the second time around and more confident in feeding in public etc. Hope to be able to contribute to the list and look forward to getting to know you all. Have a great day, breastfeeding-owneronelist wrote: > > Hello, > > Welcome to the list. Guest guest
- Hello and welcome! Congratulations on your new baby and a successful job at breastfeeding. My name is and I'm a SAHM to Davian Luciano who is currently eight months old. I went back to work when Davian was 2 months old and worked til he was six months then quit! YEAH! As for how long you can go without pumping...you must pump to keep up your supply. The longer you go between pumpings your supply will begin to decrease. Is there any way to increase my milk supply in the latter? Also, how long can I go without pumping? I currently pump twice in an 8 hour work day. Sounds like he is very good eater and growing very well. pumping every 4 hours during your work day is good I wouldn't go any less then that. When I was working I pumped every 2 hours. As for getting more milk out of the less producing breast you would need to stimulate it more. If your pumping for 15 mionutes on both sides atart pumping 20 minutes on the weaker side. Or you may try pumping that breast on your breaks also so your pumping it every 2 hours and the other every 4 until it catches up and just go back to every 4 hours for both. Good luck there is also herbs and teas you can take to help produce more milk in general. Fennell and Fenugreek are good the teas seem to be less effective (for me anyway) so I will stick with the pill format easier to take anyway Amy
