Guest guest
Interesting thread! As a long time practicer of IE, I would encourage you--based on my own experience with the journey--to allow the learning/absorbing of this new way of eating/relating to your food & body to unfold as it will, without pressure or judgment. Part of living in the gray is letting go of a preconceived " timeline " for getting it! I've found it's most helpful to work on ONE of the 10 Principles of IE at a time, if that's where I'm at (all of them at once can be quite a lot to absorb and put into practice). Whichever one resonates the most for you right now might be one way to " practice practicing " IE; for me, it's " Honor Your Hunger, " which means, when my body tells me it needs fuel, I take the time to give it what it needs, without judgment; I can get overly busy/distracted and sometimes ignore my hunger, which isn't an ideal way of caring for myself. You'll read posts on here from numerous people who've been longer-term " IE'ers " saying to give it time; so many of us come from virtual DECADES of restrictive eating/self-denial, and we're certainly not thinking of our appetites and food from a place of ABUNDANCE and happy exploration! We're thinking in terms of withholding and how BAD everything ostensibly is. It takes a while to release deeply-established patterns. While the discovery that there is a better way (IE) is an " Ah-Ha! " for many, embracing it--making it second-nature, like brushing your teeth everyday--takes some time. I've been at this for a few decades but have only truly embraced it in the last few years.... I guess a way of describing Intuitive Eating is like it's on a different " plane " of thinking - it's trusting that it will work and then taking that leap! > > > > Did you ever see the movie the Matrix? Guest guest
I'm not an IE-er newbie and it was still super helpful to me! Great reminder. Thanks for posting Caitlin. Must remember: " It takes awhile to release deeply-established patterns.
