My doctor wants me to have an endo ablation. He's explained what

it's about, but what I'd like to know from those of you out there

who've had this procedure....Since you don't have a period (bleed)

monthly, do you still get symptoms, i.e., PMS, bloating, etc. Has

anyone started bleeding again after having this procedure? Any

complications?...............Thank you

Hi,

I had an ablation on Apr. 28th and once all the dead tissue went away

I have not seen any blood. Boobs still hurt and PMS. This procedure

doesn't do anything to your hormones unfortunatly. But, hey no

bleeding! That to me is great! Are they doing a d & C first or just

the ablation? If any women has excessive bleeding and is done having

kids I'd say go for it. Next best thing to menopause. LOL

Why does your doctor want to do an ablation? An ablation can be a

good treatment for heavy bleeding (depending on the cause), in fact I

just had one last week, BUT it is not a treatment for fibroids. I

was having heavy bleeding and the primary cause was a submucousal

fibroid which I had removed via hysteroscopic resection last year. My

bleeding improved dramatically after that procedure, but since I was

still having a day of heavy bleeding each month I decided to have the

ablation done also. My doctor and I expect it to be successful

because she already removed the fibroid which was the major culprit

of my problem. I think that the new technologies have made ablation

so easy for docs to do that they seem to want to do them almost as

much as they want to do hysterectomies. It is a quick and easy

procedure for them. So make sure you understand exactly what is

causing your symptoms and research the best option for you.

According to my doctor, there's a fibroid protruding

into the uterine cavity that he thinks may be

contributing to my heavy bleeding each month. Also,

he did an endometrial biopsy the results showing mild

hyperplasia. I've been scheduled for a hysteroscopic

resection and he wants to the ablation at that time as

well. Actually he's been recommending a hysterectomy

for quite some time. It seems like hysterctomies are

such a common thing now a days. I'm one who wants to

have things in my life progress naturally, unless I

have no choice. Right now though I'm really leaning

toward just having the fibroid removed and seeing if

my bleeding improves. Thanks for your time in

responding, I appreciate it..........

Thank you for your reply. My doctor will be doing a

hysteroscopic resection of the fibroid as well as the

ablation. I know everyone's tolerance level for pain

is different, but did the ablation cause much pain and

discomfort and what was the recovery time? Sorry to

ask so many questions, but it takes a lot for me to

prepare...............

Hi, Yes I had one shot of Lupron (the one month shot). I had to go to

the ER because of excessive bleeding. It took a while to get the

bleeding to completely stop. I tried Provera. It didn't work. I

didn't want to take birth control pills because of my mom having

breast cancer and I smoke. I had a submuscuol fibroid and polyps.

Which I had resected. The doc used the same tool to scrape my lining

before the ablation. I am 47 and really don't think I should have a

problem. I see menopause coming within the next 5 years. I really

didn't see any other option. And to tell you the truth I have always

had heavy bleeding that just got worse. My sister has had 6 or 7

d & c's and I didn't want to follow in those footsteps.

Best of luck in your decision.

Hi ,

You are right about everyones pain level being different. They gave

e pain reliever right in i.v. prior to my waking up. Then some

Vicodin. They ask the scale of pain. I was given prescriptions for

Motrin 600 mg and Tylenol #3. I didn't use much of the Tylenol 3.

I'd definately say by day 3 just some Motrin. I had a discharged for

some time. 5 weeks I think. But most of that time I only needed a

panty liner. I really haven't bled since. Yipee!

Best of luck and if you have any more questions or concerns feel free

to email me off line. I just got a new job. Yeah! After being laid

off for 8 mos.

I had a resection last year and an ablation last week. I had zero

pain after the resection, but had pain for about 12 hours after the

ablation, then no pain at all since. It only makes sense that the

ablation would be more painful since the entire uterine lining is

burned, not just one sore spot where the fibroid was removed.
