None. They prefer to concentrate not on what needs to be changed in

the world, but what needs to be changed in them and their attitudes.

This is thesecondtime I've posted this joke and the first time I got

accused of being steppist!

I had lap, so I'm not sure about recovery. My diet includes liquids for 6

weeks. Gatorade is my primary source of calories and the potassium I need to

keep from cramping when I have to walk my 15 minutes in the morning and evening.

The pain meds after surgery did NOT include an IV drip, I had to ask for each

and every pain shot, which I did. I came out of surgery in pain and didn't want

to feel that again. I had my LAP RNY on the 10/31/03, came home on 11/2/03 and

took one oral dose of pain meds, but have not had to take anymore and today is

11/5/03, but remember I had Lap and you are having open. Good luck!

HELLO

Hello My name is cori. I am about 2 weeks PRE-OP... A bit scared.. I was

wondering if anyone can tell me about how long it will take to return to work..

I

am a Paramedic /Firefighter so I do alot of lifting and pulling... I am on

vacation till Dec 20 will this be enough time to recoup? I am having the Open

RNY..... Another question is can someone give me an idea of what a normal days

menu would be after the procedure???How long before going back to normal

food? Also does anyone know how gatorade will affect the new stomach? In my

field

we are given gatorade at every fire and expected to drink it to replenish some

electrolytes....

I have been told that i should have dr make my pouch a bit bigger

since i dont eat at any regular cycle... And because I burn so many more

calories

in my field... ( I think thats kinda dumb cause if i was burning so many more

calories I wouldnt be needing this procedure)... What is pouch size after

procedure if anyone knows...... MY Dr has been kinda hard to get with cause of

vacation to ask these questions.... Last question How many people had self

controlled pain meds via IV pump after procedure????? And what was length of

stay in

hospital.....

Thanks and sorry for all the questions...................Cori

Welcome Chavonne. I think you will find that this is a good place for support

while you go thru the changes that will turn your life back around to YOU. Keep

reading the IE book and do post any questions, fears or reactions you have while

reading it. We have all been there and you will find that there is a wealth of

supportive feedback to be gained here. Looking forward to more posts from you.

that, even if I lost the weight I hope to lose, I don't want to be obsessively

watching what I eat for the rest of my life. I've heard about IE before and am

really intrigued. The idea of not being a slave to my scale sounds like a

miracle. I bought Intuitive Eating (the book) this morning and am reading it

now. I'm absolutely terrified by the idea of not dieting because I've been doing

so for most of my life. I would appreciate any and all support and tips. Thanks!

Thanks, Katcha! I actually do have a question--how do most people work through

the book? I plan to read it all and then go back through it again and work

through each principle every 2-4 weeks. What worked for you?

I'm really excited about starting this journey. Thanks for your support!

Just wanted to answer your question as to what worked for me. I read the book

through to get the sense of it first; highlighting phrases & dog-earing pages

when something " spoke " to me. Then I went back and started with the principle

that resonated within me the strongest. There is no right or wrong way to

approach this. It's all about getting in touch with your own particular needs.

Which can be a challenge at first when we're used to diets (the external)

telling us what to do. But I liked focusing on one, maybe two, principles at a

time. And don't rush the process, stick with each principle as long as you need

to. And it's normal that you'll bounce around a bit. It's not a linear process.

It's been a great process, getting know myself from the inside out and learning

to be my own caretaker.

Chavonne, how each person incorporates IE into their life is as individual as

all our food preferences ;-) What works for me is to take notes as I read. Not

only does this reinforce what I've read (hand -> eyes -> mind), it also creates

a quick reference to those pages if I want to go over them again. I've also

known a person who was more (sound) verbally oriented who did better by saying

the words she wanted to remember out loud or silently to herself. I would say

that whatever 'resonates' or just feels comfortable to you is YOUR best path.

Just be as gentle and as patient as you can with yourself and you will find you

are on your IE journey too.

Best to you - Katcha
