Guest guest
I actually prefer diet soda myself because I don't like to eat or drink too much sugar I never have even before IE. I like IE because you are not forced to drink or eat something just because you think you should you do it because you want to eat or drink whatever it is in your case diet soda. As for the binging I am not a binge eater but I am an emotional eater and to keep this under control I have tried to start finding a way to get my emotions out so that what I am feeling doesn't make me want to eat. I write them down sometimes posting them here or on other groups. I find it has helped control my emotional eating I have not stopped it entirely but it has helped a lot to control it. Eva Hi All-I started the IE approach about two weeks ago and was doing great for about a week. I visited my parents, which probably ignited some old food issues, and since then I haven't been able to get back on the bandwagon. Every day I tell myself that I will eat when I'm hungry and then I start to binge. Sometimes I wait until I'm actually hungry, but then I finish all my food and this starts the binge cycle. It's been a couple of days and I'm having "diet thoughts," which of course only make me eat more. Does anyone have any tips to get back to a good place? Also, whenever I buy soda now, I always buy regular instead of diet, but I'm starting to think I might actually PREFER diet soda.......is that possible, or do you think I'm just "too scared" to drink regular soda b/c it's so obviously "bad" for you?Any words of encouragement would be great. I'm really struggling.------------------------------------

Guest guest
It sounds like you are doing what I do sometimes - making IE into just another diet with different rules - as soon as I make " I won't eat until I'm hungry and I'll stop as soon as I'm satisfied " ... I rebelled against that!!! Gillian pointed out that IE is about healing the rules-based thinking surrounding food. My suggestion is, when you want to eat, ask yourself 1. am I hungry? 2. if I'm not hungry, what am I feeling? How do I want this food to make me feel? Is there another way to get the feeling I'm looking for? Will eating fulfill the need I have? At first, I'd go through the process and eat anyways - but gradually I gained the awareness of why I was craving certain foods (or at certain times) and I started getting ideas of what else would be MORE effective at helping me meet my needs. It felt very " natural " in that I wasn't forcing myself through some sort of psychotherapy - the self-awareness seemed to lead naturally to behavioral changes. Now, 4 months into my journey, I rarely overeat through rebellion or emotional issues (I still eat to much when it just tastes so darn good, but that's a lot happier lifestyle LOL). The other thing to keep in mind is that sometimes, especially at the beginning, your emotional need for the comfort of food DOES over-ride what you think you SHOULD do. But go ahead and do what feels good - if you are overfull, you just won't get hungry again for a while longer! So it balances out over time hope this helps! Mikki .. Guest guest
Hi there, It certainly is possible to prefer diet soda. I've never liked regular soda, it's just too sweet. Sometimes (happily) I genuinely prefer the healthier option even if it's not because of any health reasons. Only you know though if you're just depriving yourself of regular soda due to diet mentality. To be honest, regular soda is kind of on my forbidden list, now that I think of it. If it was the only thing at a get-together for example, I would never have drank it. Maybe I would now. thea > Also, whenever I buy soda now, I always buy regular instead of diet, but I'm starting to think > I might actually PREFER diet soda.......is that possible, or do you think I'm just " too scared " to > drink regular soda b/c it's so obviously " bad " for you? Guest guest
Every single day I have to tell myself to Honor my hunger. To not be anxious about food choices. That no food is illegal. Sort of like anything you want to memorize and internalize (poetry, Bible verses, recipes, etc!) you have to repeat it to yourself until it is part of who you are. Guest guest
I used to never like diet sodas - too artificial (bitter?) tasting in the sweetness. About the only diet drink I enjoyed was grapefruit which has a tang to it to begin with. I don't seem to drink as much soda as I used to, I am slowly re-acquainting (training?) myself to water, which is what I really need truth be told. Yet I find water unsatisfying at times so a soda or juice helps me to get moisture without feeling like its a chore (got to do) too. It really is grand to have options and not limit myself to water or diet drinks and feel guilty if I enjoy a non-diet soda.
