Guest guest
Just my two cents, but I would keep IE to yourself unless you can deal with the focus being on you and possibly your weight. If they question your bringing or buying your own food, tell them you have a quirky thing about having food that you really like with you and available to you. (leaving it at that, letting them just THINK about that) Basically is that is NOT good enough an explanation for them then - oh well for them. I personally dont think it is best to always be completely open with everyone. Some people will never understand or see your point of view because they are so invested in being RIGHT or their own point of view. good luck w/ your visit in AZ > > > > I just got to the part in When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies where they talk about carrying food around with you so you feel safe all day, no fear of hunger, just like a mother would for a baby. > > > > Is anyone actually doing this? What do you put in it? > > > > I'm starting to think about it, because in a couple of days I'm going to my parents' house, land of white bread, processed cheese, no and i mean ZERO fresh food, and guilt trips whenever I express a desire to buy any. 6 month old OJ is not cool. My parents also discuss every pound they gain or lose, and I know they're going to have a lot to say about me (among themselves, fortunately. unless, god help us, they're going to stage an intervention). > > > > in making a list of things I'm planning to buy and take, it's been kind of hard to work in the fact that i can put candy in there if I want to. In the past whenever I carried food around, it would be so I would AVOID getting candy from a vending machine. but now I think it would be a good idea. > > > > it's been interesting to think about this because it helps me identify the foods i think i should like but really don't like, like Odwalla bars. > > > > here's what i'm thinking: cereal (chocolate chex / cocoa krispies), whole grain pop tarts (i'm not being virtuous, I really like that kind, and not the non-whole-grain kind), twixes and/or m & ms... suggestions? > > > > the problem is that i don't like a lot of temperature-independent processed food, that you can pack and take. i do like processed food, especially frozen stuff like veggieburgers, but when i think of foods i really like, it's mostly like fresh bread i make myself or smoothies or roasted potatoes, stuff you have to cook. > > > > i'll have to get some fresh milk and orange juice and to hell if anyone wants to fight with me about it. one thing i'm wrestling with is whether i should be open about this with my parents or not. they take things very personally. in the past whenever i've bought food for myself they say things like " aren't we feeding you enough? " which makes me feel terrible. > > > > thea > > >
