Guest guest
Hi Toni, I have blond hair that I get highlighted every few months and sitting in that chair with those chemicals swirling around followed by time spent under the heater do me in. Even with Photoderm treatments under my belt, I had a terrible flare when I got my hair highlighted about a month ago. As far as I know, I only experience that adverse effect during the coloring. Once the color is on the hair and I'm out of the shop for a while, it calms down. Hope that answers your question. I would be curious to know what others have to say about their experiences. Guest guest
I don't think that hair color has been tied to rosacea, although the stereotype is that rosacea-prone people have fair skin and descend from Celtic or Nordic backgrounds. However, there are a lot of medium to dark complected people in this e-group who will tell you that they have rosacea as bad as any pale person. Welcome to the group. There are lots of good home-coloring kits out there. My mom has tried and liked the one called Casting, which is either Revlon or L'oreal -- I can't remember. I correct alot of the home coloring jobs! Some do have good luck with them though. Just remember that the color on the box isn't necessarily the color that you will get. As far as reacting to color when having rosacea.....I work with it on a daily basis and it can be a trigger. The highlift colors/bleach are the worst. I am doing better with the reactions on my skin, but it still kills my eyes. I put eye drops in my eyes many times a day! If you are just coloring your hair every 4 or 5 weeks you should be fine. I color at home and don't have to sit under those hot dryers at a shop. I color to hide gray and match my true color. Luckily, I have never had to call my hairdresser because my hair turned " green " . Terry
Guest guest
hi. just thought i'd mention that i used to color my hair but when the rosacea got out control and i began reacting to everyday things i used all the time, hair color caused a huge reaction. you may be just fine, but even though it's a pain in the neck it might be a good idea to do a patch test first. cenia
Guest guest
I'm new to the group and was recently diagnosed with pre-cea. I had a severe breakout over the summer (due to stress and hot weather) and have been treated since that time. Three years ago I had a year long bout with Chalazions (6 operations). I believe this must have been OR, although 5 doctors couldn't figure out my condition. Anyway, my question relates to hair color. I've been thinking about giving a boost to my dark brown hair (it's dry on the ends from the harsh cold weather). Also, my brother who has the same color hair and is 5 years younger, is during gray. I'm sure this is right around the corner for me too. How does hair color affect cea? I haven't seen any past reference to this question. Thanks Toni
Guest guest
Sorry, Bill, I didn't mean to step on your toes by mentioning home-coloring options. I had no idea that coloring hair was your territory. My mother does do a nice job with hers.
Guest guest
Beth and Toni, I also have my hair highlighted--I have a " foil " done on my blonde hair every 3 months; the heat from the dryer bothers my face, the ammonia odor irritates my eyes a bit. All of this goes away within a half-hour to hour.
