Her gut must still be leaky. While on GFCF your daughter was still

getting starches and sugars (thru rice, potatoes etc).

Two problems arise and get aggravated:

Starch will stay undigested in the gut and will feed and feed and

feed the gutbugs there.

Starch will pass without being used at all and will show up in het

stool undigested.

The gutbugs will thrive. While thriving, they compete each other.

While competeing, they try to outcrowd each other by excreting nasty

toxins. These toxins are harmful to your child (as described in

Breaking the Vicious Cycle and in the book by Shaw).

What also will happen is that for example candida will not only

multiply to an overgrowth situation, but candida has the terrible

habit to eat itself into the gutwall and stay there. This makes

candida a difficult one to get under control.

A leaky gutwall will be very difficult for the immune system to

tackle and recognize as food particles enter the bloodstream. Lots of

allergies will show up in testing.

When food is ending up undigested in your daughters stool, she will

not use the nutrients you give her.

" How long do you need to stay on SCD "

As long as your daughter's gut is not healed enough.

.

There is no timeline or time limit with SCD. One thing to be aware of is

restricted foods are not introduced back into the diet untill a full year after

the last symptom is gone. Some need to or choose to remain on SCD for a long

time or forever. SCD requires " fanatical adherence " and that is a direct quote

from " Breaking the Vicious Cycle, " the required handbook.

Now for the good news. based on anectdotal reports, 80% of those on the diet

experience improvement, and many have recocery or " cure " with gastric diseases.

Some children with autism who succeed lose their autism diagnosis. This makes it

worth a try.

It means giving up the store bought convenience foods allowed on the diet you

currently use.

One thing you can count on is information, support and response from those on

this message board. Often it seems like they are tuned in to group subscribers

24/7.

I do hope you join us and you will be warmly welcomed. But say farewell to corn,

rice, sugar, soy and grain and think about saying 'hello " to goat yogurt (always

optional, not mandatory)
