Guest guest
Thanks for your " two cents " Kathleen, In my opinion your story is " priceless " as it confirms a connection to low stomach acid and poor digestion for rosaceans. I too take a digestive enzyme and my face is free of bumps and redness. For a few bucks a bottle its something rosaceans should consider - and it will benefit their overall nutritional well-being. tricia red ears > Just thought I would add my two cents worth here - When I did acupunture for my symptoms, she concentrated a great deal on my ears. The ears have pressure points all over that deal with skin, digestion and just about all other bodily functions. I would always leave her office with little black bb's taped to the back and insides of my ears. I do rub them alot now in those places becuase I know that it hits other points in the body which might be blocked (hands and feet as well). It actually feels good to really massage them all over. > > Although acupuncture did not work for me, she did discover my problem was digestion (which caused bumps and redness on the face). I now take a twin lab capsule called Betain with Pepsin when I eat and not only have my bumps vanished but the redness has improved dramtically. Seems my stomach acid was too low therefore causing allergic reactions and slow movement of food through my system. My body would get rid of the toxins through my skin since it could not break down my food. I am also allergic to antibiotics so that was never an option for me. I eat everything now and am enjoying life. > > I did learn a lot from acupuncture about where my symptoms derive from we just both agreed that it was not working for me. Guest guest
I take Wobenzym-N to help with digestion/facial edema. Personally, I still have to be careful about what I eat and avoid chocolate, vinegar, citrus foods, etc. If I eat just a bit of chocolate, I get a guaranteed 2-3 bumps. If I eat chocolate and create excess heat for myself through overexercising or extreme embarrassment, I can get 4+ bumps and burning, painful skin. I'm glad that taking digestive enzymes has helped relieve food-related triggers for some of you. For me, it has not. Guest guest
There are a couple that I do - DIGESTIVE AID by SOLGAR , MEGA-ZYME by ENZYMATIC THERAPIES. You can find a variety of digestive aids at your local health foods store. What to look for in particular with regard to low stomach acid is an enzyme with minimum 90mg Betaine Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) it should also include pepsin, pancreatin, lipase (for fat digestion) and can include papin (papaya) , bromelain (pineapple). Most will also contain protease, amylase and micellaneaous other enzymes. Plant based enzymes are good but not as great as an animal based enzyme as it will not contain the bile (usually from oxes) needed for fat digestion. Ususally plant based enzymes are good for inbetween meals and animal based are generaly best taken with meals although I take them with and inbetween my meals. TWIN LABS is also a great company which kathleen has had good response with Betaine w/ pepsin. There are many to choose from and since it will be something that will be part of your daily supplementation I would experiment with different ones and you will find your favourite soon enough. tricia happy eating and let us know how you feel after eating if you start to take them. and be sure to share your story when oyur face lightens up! red ears > > > > Just thought I would add my two cents worth here - When I did acupunture > for my symptoms, she concentrated a great deal on my ears. Guest guest
Edema is sometimes related to inadequate protein assimilation and protein deficency is linked to water retention, especially when it shows under the eyes. Do you find that the wobenzym n ( a potent antiinflammatory enzyme but one without HCL (needed to digest and assimilate proteins) has made no difference at all? My thoughts would be to give another digestive aid a try, one that includes HCL and see if that makes a difference. It cant hurt and may just help. B6 is also good for water retention 50mg 3x/day. For you foods with pitta quality are obvious things to avoid and chocolate is basically sugar, cocoa with some milk proteins and hardly considered a food . Dark choclate without the milk may be a nice alternative for those moments of indulgence;) Tricia red ears > > > > > > > Just thought I would add my two cents worth here - When I did > acupunture > > for my symptoms, she concentrated a great deal on my ears. Guest guest
Hi Tricia, The Wobenzym-N does help bring down the swelling. (Along with Tagamet and 50 mgs. of B6) I did try a digestive aid with HCL some time ago, and it didn't work for me. (I think it was the Twin Labs one.) Since I have hypothyroidism, I have to have around 60 grams of protein a day to feel normal. I did notice that when I was on a low protein diet that my face was puffier. The edema I describe may be due to the inability of lymph fluid to drain from my face once I have a flare rather than just water retention. This happens to women who've had radical mastectomies where their lymph nodes were removed. Their arms can be really swollen due to improper drainage of lymph fluid. Milk chocolate is a little less aggravating to my skin than semi-sweet chocolate. I usually don't eat milk chocolate because I don't like it. I love very dark, dark chocolate and have my worse reactions with it. Straight powdered cocoa seems to be bad for me too. About the 150 mgs. of B6 daily, I had a very bad experience around 10 years ago when I felt a whole body paralysis after taking 200 mgs. of B6 a day for a few days. It can damage the nerves in a high dose such as that. I'm not a nutritionist or MD, but please don't recommend such a high dose of B6. It may cause harm for some. I will try the HCl digestive aid again to see how if it works so I can eat some of the bitter dark chocolate that I love. Guest guest
I think these are categories that practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine place people in depending upon a person's metabolism, skin type, personality, etc. They do this so they can tailor treatment to an individual. That being said, I think my food triggers are related to histamine. I don't know if that is what a Pitta-type should avoid... I don't know much about Ayurveda besides what I just said! Guest guest
How can one tell if one have low stomach acid? Can high stomach acid also create the same symptoms?
