Guest guest
Dawn: I am starting now with a collection of things I will need once I become post-op. Any recipes you or anyone else can share would be great. I really am not to sure what I will be able to have once I start with food. My husband keeps telling me baby food. Guest guest
, There isn't a place to find recipes on the OSSG-New England site, however, many of us have some. If you're interested, let me know, I can forward some I have to you. Dawn recipies Is there recipies on this sight that is good for you that you can eatwhen you start eating again? Guest guest
, You will need a bunch of things for when you start out on foods. This can vary from Dr. to Dr., so check with them. The best things I've found to be good for a start are: Bouillons CIB (Carnation Instant B-fast) SUGAR FREE Egg beaters, or regular if allowed Milk WATER powdered milk SF Popsicles, freeze pops, fudgicles SF jell-o SF pudding Cheese (when ready)**add to eggs for a scrambled w/cheese seasonings to add to things such as: Garlic powder, salt, pepper, etc... Extracts for a change of flavors in the CIB sweeteners (ei: Splenda, Equal, Sweet n Low, etc.) plain cream of wheat saltines oatmeal (plain) sf maple syrup to add to oatmeal/cr. of wheat if u like that bananas to mush up ice cube trays (make up broth, throw in those, pop one or 2 out, and nuke for a fast way of small portions to eat) Dixie cups (I found these useful to monitor my intake) Baby spoons (this helps until you get adjusted to the amounts to consume without getting stuck) straws for drinking...you'll do a LOT of drinking, but BE CAREFUL...some Dr's advise you NOT to suck out of a straw for a while until the belly heals due to pressure inside) Protein Powders (if Dr allows this) such as: Carb Solutions, Myoplex, Designer Protein...watch the carb/sugar intake applesauce (natural/unsweetened) a bunch of magazines to read I think that's about it that I can recall right now, but again, check w/your program on what you're allowed. Don't go overboard and buy a ton of stuff until you know for sure. Hope this helps! Dawn Re: recipes Dawn: I am starting now with a collection of things I will need once I become post-op. Guest guest
Dawn: Wow! Reading your list was an eye opener in itself. Here I am thinking I can eat my oatmeal when in reality I won't be able to because of the sugar. I will have to find SF maple syrup. The dixie cup suggestion and the broth in the ice cubes are a great idea. Very helpful. I will print your letter and keep it for future references. Thanks a lot,
Guest guest
What the next stage after the mush stuff?
Guest guest
depends on the Dr., but I believe most say soft solids (ei: scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, soups with stuff in it, etc.) Dawn Re: recipes What the next stage after the mush stuff? Guest guest
Thanks Joni, any advice is helpful. I will put yours to the test. Cream soups is actually something I hadn't thought of. Thanks,
Guest guest
, I think Dawn provided a very comprehensive list. The only thing I did not see on there was cream soups. I lived on cream of chicken and cream of tomato soup my first month after surgery, I mixed them with milk to get added protein. Make sure that you have a hand blender [you can pick up a Regal @ Wal-Mart for about $10.00] I would put the soup in a pan with a can of milk and use the hand blender to mix it up... Guest guest
Dawn, Thank you. I am really interested in getting recipes now that I have made it over to the other side. Of course, they would be for the future. Getting tired of no appetite and pushing fluids and mush. Take care, sweetie. Have a good week at work.
