Guest guest
, I am really sorry you have to got through the removal process. I don't have any advice being just 3 months postop myself. Marsha (mla)had her hardware removed;maybe she can be of some assistance. Not sure if anyone else has recently. Good luck and best wishes. ~~ > Hi everyone! > > I haven't been here in quite some time. Guest guest
, I had the hardware removed from the left side of my face at about 4 months post-op. My surgeon did it in his office surgery suite, and I was completely out of it. It took about 30 to 45 minutes to do. I had substantial swelling and numbness again but no bruising. Both the swelling and numbness seemed to away faster than with the original surgery. I think I was off work for about 1 week. I was still more swollen than before the removal, but it wasn't too bad after a week. I remember I used my zippie bags for a couple of days, and went back to a liquid/soft diet for awhile too. If you have any particular questions, ask away! Marsha > Hi everyone! > > I haven't been here in quite some time. Guest guest
Hi Marsha, Thanks so much for your reply - I am a bit more anxious than I thought I would be about it, I suppose I figured after almost 2 yrs., I was done with my jaw Some of my concerns were about the swelling and discomfort - I was also wondering how long I might be out of work. Thanks for filling me in on your experience, it must have tough to go through that so soon post-op, but at least it was still while you were healing. I am also concerned that my appearance might change somewhat (I am pretty used to this new smile of course!). I know my surgeon assured me that besides the swelling, nothing will change. I am very happy with my results, so I suppose that is why I am anxious. I am also wondering if it will *feel* different without the screws, will it feel different when I smile, etc.? I don't know how much you can tell, considering you were only 4 months post-op, so I am sure you were still getting used to the 'new' you Thanks again for your response! I hope you are doing well with your 'new' look ! Thankfully, I still have quite a few zippies left (I kept them for nostalgia, of course Best wishes, **Thank you as well to and for your encouragement - I am so happy with my results, it has all been well worth it in the end. > > Hi everyone! > > > > I haven't been here in quite some time. Guest guest
, I was very anxious about the removal too. I think my main concern was that my face would change again, and like you, I was happy with my new look. The only changes were temporary. I remember my smile looked different for a while because of the tightness in the incision area. I had to do some stretching to help loosen my face again. I'm sure you know what I mean! As far as time off of work, I think I probably could have gone back sooner than I did if I'd had to. At my job, I have to talk literally all day, and that seemed to worsen the swelling and discomfort. So, I was thankful for the time off to heal. I doubt you'll feel any different after the removal. Of course, you'll have a lot of tightness for awhile, but not permanently. I had a screw poking out right underneath my left eye, and that was gone when I woke up. That was the only thing that felt different to me. My x-rays look lop-sided now too! When are you scheduled to have this done? Best of luck to you! I don't remember a lot about it, but I do remember it wasn't nearly as big of deal as I thought it would be. I worried a LOT about it unnecessarily. You can do it! Guest guest
Hi Marsha, I guess I am not looking forward to any amount of healing to go through yet again - I can vividly remember those first few days post-op, and they were NOT fun. I will just have to be patient and know it will pass, and won't be as trying as the initial surgery recovery. In particular, I remember how much discomfort there was when I laughed a week after surgery, and could feel the tight pulling of the stitches - I ended up crying instead, out of frustration! I am scheduled for the surgery on May 23rd - I would like it sooner, however given I teach, it wouldn't be feasible to stand in front of a class, looking and feeling like I will! Thanks again for your response, it is very much appreciated! I remember how invaluable the help I received from everyone here before and after my surgery. Best wishes, > > > > Hi everyone! > > > > > > > > I haven't been here in quite some time.
