Guest guest
I can see some people undereating, at least in my opinion, but what makes you gals think you're undereating? If I feel stuffed, I think I've overeaten. Since I've never "undereaten" on a regular basis (I say that because I have not a lot of weight), I guess undereating has not been a problem for me. Undereating would be a problem because you might not get enough nutrients from your food. Guest guest
-IE has a fullness chart that has been helpful to me. I LOVE the full feeling especially when I have eaten a variety of the healthy foods I love. Guest guest
, I am wondering if what you mean by " I feel I ate too much. " reflects the sensation of extended stomach/body fullness or if its a judgmental assessment made by/on yourself? Are you loosing weight at a disturbing rate? That would seem to be a clear indication of under eating to me. Best to you, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > ~ > > I am feeling the same way, thanks for putting this post out. Guest guest
na, I have a couple of ideas you could play with if you like them. First, when we are getting close to full (or satisfied), our taste buds actually start to desensitize to the flavor of the food. A lot of people don’t realize this because they aren’t eating mindfully or they’re trying to eat it really fast because they are anxious about eating it, and many other reasons. But if you really pay attention (and it may take some practice), you will notice when the food doesn’t taste as good as when you started. Sometimes the difference between full and overly full can just be 2 -3 bites so as you’re getting to a point where you might be getting full, ask yourself how many more bites would feel good. One of my favorite things is to work backwards. Typically (and this is a generalization, NOT a rule) if we eat to full and not beyond that, we will be hungry again in 3-4 hours. I hesitate to share this because it could be turned into a rule. I’m not saying that you should eat every 3-4 hours, this is not a diet. But, most people who are able to eat intuitively find that most of the time they are hungry within that time period. If they overeat, they won’t be hungry that soon, it may be 5 or 6 hours. This is certainly the case for me. So if you want to figure out if you overate, wait until you are hungry again. Then notice how long it’s been since you ate last. Has it been 3-4 hours? If so, you probably ate until you were full but not over. If it’s been longer, you may have overeaten. Think about how you felt when you were done eating and try to notice that when you are eating so you can stop earlier. If you’re hungry 1 or 2 hours after eating, a couple things could have happened. First you may not have eaten enough. Secondly you may have eaten something that didn’t stabilize your blood sugar. That’s why it’s generally recommended to incorporate protein with carbs because it stays with you longer and keeps your blood sugar even so you don’t have any quick drops. It will be difficult to know when you are full if you wait too long to eat and get overly hungry. And if you eat out of emotional reasons instead of hunger, it will also be hard to know when you are done. I’m not saying don’t do it, you always have a choice and everything is a learning experience, I just wanted to mention these other scenarios. Remember everyone is different and eating by the clock and other external cues instead of listening to your body is a diet! As you progress in this journey you’ll find your natural rhythms. Keep practicing and learning from your experiences. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi . Curious as to how you are going to do it. I've been "doing" IE and normal eating for about 3 months now. it's taking time and now I can't weigh myself for the next 6 weeks which will be interesting to see what happens when I do get on the scale, how this IE is working out. But I'm better off this way, because i am not tormenting myself every day and every time I eat about eating too much. I eat basically what I want to, when i want to, and it centers around my hunger, also fullness signals. I am very interested to hear about your continued journey with IE. Guest guest
Cindi, whenever I have found myself 'checking IE', it seems that I have lost my focus on keeping my attention upon myself and what I am doing. For me looking EXternally is always a bad sign because that is when I am the most sidetracked and slipping into diet mentality. The scale has never been a 'friend' to me! I am much better served by taking the best care of myself as I am NOW than to slip into the 'shoulds' ;-) Hope you loose more than the weight of your cast by the time it comes off. Guest guest
Hi, Katcha. I notice that when I started learning about IE and normal eating, I certainly did have a diet mentality and I held on to it for a while, not understanding the IE part. As time goes on, I'm losing more of it. I'm beginning to think I'm thinking more like a normal person. :-) amazing, but true. I noticed this when I got rid of the mashed potatoes that I began eating before and didn't feel at all bad about getting rid of them.
