Guest guest
Hello Group, It was great to find much sought after info. in the archives about others'experiences of their orgasms with fibroids! It's kind of sounding like maybe it depends on the sizes and location of them, but I welcome any ideas, experiences, or referrals to pertinent articles etc. On the other hand, it occurred to me,(and I've never given birth) that perhaps the presence of anything large enough in the uterus, including a fetus, would affect the uterus'ability to contract, thus produce a fuller, more intense orgasm. ~Doesn't that seem logical? #1 So... previously pregnant women who've had orgasms during late second and third trimesters, did they become any less intense during pregnancy and then return to normal relatively soon after childbirth? When my fibroids were smaller,(they're now grapefruit~plus sizes), the orgasms were just as wonderfully intense as ever. Now,like one of you mentioned, I too experience little or no uterine contraction with mine which brings up my next urgent question: #2 Is there anyone out there with large fibroids who noticed decreased pleasure with orgasm before Myomectomy and then discovered that the intensity of her orgasms returned after the surgery? If this is the case,I think it will definitely give me extra incentive and strength about facing my upcoming Myo in just 3 short weeks!!! Guest guest
Hi , I'm one of the women who have no more uterine contractions now that my fibroids have gotten bigger. The first I noticed a difference was about five years ago when I would have a tiny little painful twinge with orgasm. Then the contractions just stopped. I have read in Johanna Skilling's(sp?) book that uterine contractions return after myomectomy, and the first gyno I spoke with said that that would be the case. I haven't really spoken about that issue with the doctor I finally decided to choose, mainly because the pressure and pain I'm experiencing have made my choice to undergo myo surgery pretty clear cut, to me anyway. I can't remember if it was Johanna Skilling's book " Fibroids: The Complete Guide to Taking Charge of Your Physical, Emotional, and Sexual Well-Being " or her newer book in the " First Year " series that she mentions the pre and post myo return of uterine contractions. I'm having my surgery on the 31st of July, and hoping for a return of the fireworks I remember from those days before my belly was overrun by invaders! I think that idea of pregnancy affecting orgasms makes sense. When I first complained about the lack of orgasm intensity to my nurse practitioner and postulated that maybe it was the fibroids, she said " That doesn't make sense, because women have orgasms with pregnancy. Just do some Kegel excercises. " I did a lot of research, and only found one reference online to the LACK of contractions with fibroids, and then the book I mentioned. I did read that after birth many women take a little bit of time to regain their prebirth orgasm intensity, I guess it takes time for the uterus to get back in shape. Hope this helps, and I will be posting all about my experience post myo, for sure! B S.F.
Guest guest
Hi , I'm just the opposite of what you mentioned. As the fibroids have gotten bigger, the intensity of my uterine orgasms have gotten bigger as well. Someone here, Faryl, I think, explained that fibroids are muscular tissue and that muscle contracts with orgasm therefore sometimes the fibroids add to the total experience. I'm not having a myo till the fall so I will soon find out if this changes at all but I never had a problem before the fibroids with intensity. Geez, if uterine orgasms get any better than this after my myo, I'm in big trouble!!! LOL Good luck with your myo, Rhonda
Guest guest
Hi --this subject is very interesting to me, too, and I spent some time looking for studies on this and asking every woman I knew about it while I was deciding what to do about my fibroids. I actually found a study that suggested that women with fibroids report more uterine orgasms than women without. If you search the archives (back in March or April) look for a post from me titled something like " The impact of hysterectomy on ...). I'll see if I still have the link and send to you off-list if you want. LMK. I'm just guessing, but based on what I've read here on the list, it sounds like some amount of extra uterine muscles (as in small or moderate size fibroids) might enhance uterine orgasmic sensitivity, but really large masses might prevent full orgasm. Just a guess! In my own case, I always had very intense uterine orgasms and lately I feel like my fibroids have shrunk. I might have turned the corner into menopause, cuz my periods have disappeared (from my mouth to goddess' ears!) for a few months. So, that's great news, but my uterine orgasms are not what they used to be. In fact, I may not even be having them...I'm having orgasm, but feels very different. THis is not necessarily a bad thing, as I must admit that I've had some very intense orgasms that were really more intense than a person needs! I mean, I would feel the orgasm for hours after in that my uterus felt like it had just been through a very big experience. Now, I like sex very much, but I don't need to go around feeling like my uterus just had a shiatsu massage or a rolfing session, if you know what I mean. Not that there's anything wrong with that! It's just that I have discovered that maximum intensity orgasms can mean recovery time on the couch and less intense ones mean " Hey, wanna go swimming or something? " Good luck with your research. Hope you will report back. This is important info, very little discussed. Which is why (plug, plug) we are forming a sex discussion group. If you are interested, write to me off-list. Guest guest
To and Faryl re: orgasms. There's actually been some discussion in research circles that a fibroid uterus may actually experience stronger orgasms than a non-fibroid uterus. This has to do with the fact that fibroids are very vascular -- they take in a lot of blood, have more blood vessels than the surrounding uterine tissue. As sexual excitement grows, blood engourges the sexual organs, and helps create " sexual tension " . So more blood vessels, more engorgement, more sexual tension, better sex. At least that's how I understand this. Regarding a lessening of orgasm intensity as we hit menopause -- there are at least 2 reasons I can think of for this. The first is what Faryl suggested, that the fibroids are shrinking. Again, smaller fibroids, less blood vessels, less engorgement, etc. -- less intense orgasms. The second reason for a lessening of the intensity of orgasm at or right around menopause would have to do with changing hormone levels -- both estrogen and testosterone (which women do have though in much smaller amounts than men) decrease and this affects both libido (the desire for sex) and the actual experience of sex. Loss or lowering of estrogen can also result in thinning of the vaginal walls, which in turn can result in tears from vigorous (or sometimes not so vigorous) thrusting. This can usually be dealt with locally by using estrogen tablets that are inserted into the vagina once or twice a week. This form of estrogen delivery has very little effect on the body -- it remains a pretty local effect.
