I cannot understand it, what will the kids do w/o us? As it is, they double us up. I hoped it would help with the new administration in office and I also heard of stimulus $ but yet they cut a program I worked on in the summer for severely emotionally disabled teenagers. I do not know if it is just our county or statewide, just wanted to let you know that this: if you are fighting for a para these days, the lawyer word definitely has to be in the mix. As it is, I took on a student that is in definite need of an asst, doubling my load because they said they were not allowed to assign anyone new to him due to budget restraints. I think it is a case of the squeakiest wheel gets the oil at this point. And hate to say it- but nice guys probably finish last here...Parents need to be firm in what they know their kids need to succeed. Wishing you good luck! If he is at a public school then you might consider getting an advocate to help you to incorporate an aide at the school on his IEP. The schools are really fighting getting aides - they've cut out funding even though Broward schools recvd stimulus money specifically to help with special needs. Also, you should start going to the ESE Parent Advisory Meetings (for Broward schools) usually held on the 3rd monday evening of the month which will start again in September even if he is in private school in the event you put him in public school at a later date. Otherwise, you could put up flyers at the local colleges/churches etc. Hope this helps. Good luck. c From: dylsha <dylshayahoo (DOT) com>To: sList@ yahoogroups. comSent: Monday, August 3, 2009 5:59:46 PMSubject: Broward: Shadow/facilitator for my son Hi!I am looking for a shadow/facilitator for my 4 yr-old son at pre-school.He is high functioning but needs some help at school.
