Don, approaching others

Hi Don,

Dawny had a brilliant idea of wearing t-shirts that read " I've lost 200

pounds...Ask me how! " . Wouldn't that be a riot?!

Seriously though, there was talk at one of the NWH meetings a while back

about this very subject. People brainstormed, essentially, handing out

cards to well-chosen people or whatever. At the time, I was too recent a

post-op and wasn't even sure I had made the right decision for myself

(remember those days, guys? a lot of us have been through that period of

" oh my God, what did I just do to myself? " ). Now I can fully appreciate how

difficult it can be not to share how we've come this far.

I've decided to be more forthright with my experience. I haven't told many

new people in my life about my surgery. I'm not embarssed, exactly. I

think it's because I don't like the idea of feeling like I have to justify

my decision? Not that everyone would make me feel that way. But, I think

it's important for me.

It can be heartbreaking though, eh?

Dawn:

Just catching up on my e-mail (a busy work week). First of all, it was great to meet you last night at NWH. Always a treat to put a face with the "voice". Your idea of a dance for large size people is great and it would probably be a good opportunity to educate anyone who might be interested in an alternative to morbid obesity.

Just don't let me get in a room with some of those people who think being fat is wonderful and are "content" with their bodies. I suspect each and everyone of them, somewhere deep inside, is desperate to lose weight. It must be so sad to have given up so completely that you are willing to accept morbid obesity as something nature intended and believe it is an okay way of life.

Hope I am making sense; also tired and GLAD it's Friday. Good weekend to all.

Lois

Great meeting you too Lois!

I'm going to think about this dance for a bit, and let you all know what I come up with.
