Barb,

We live in a rural area in Ohio and have only local chains. Our cherries are

usually $3.99 lb for about two weeks in the summer, go to $1.99 for about

one week, and then disappear until the next year. That is why I guard them so

fiercely while in the freezer. I also test one at the store (with permission)

to make sure that it is sweet. If not, I try another store. Tasteless ones do

not increase in sweetness during freezing :-)

My daughter lived in New England (Massachusetts) and produce there was

always higher there than in Ohio.

- I lived in WI and IA for a few years and it was much less expensive

than out here. Spent the last 25 years in MA before moving to NH. We had better

produce in the midwest than here and the corn in WI was the best I ever had.

Will have to keep watch on the cherries and hope they come down. Right now

nectarines are running on special, so maybe next week for the holiday. Would

love to try freezing them. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks to whoever it was who suggested freezing cherries. I tried it, and I

think they're much better that way. They also last longer because they're

harder to chew.
