Guest guest
Monday we are starting week 12 in SCD... I was thinking about starting to introduce whole nuts. Which ones are more digestible? He had eaten some walnuts at the end of the first month (before we knew better...) He eat peanut butter by the spoon... Also, what about peeled raw fruit (he has eaten a few grapes here and there with peels, no reaction, and raw peach with enzymes, possibly a reaction). Which is better to start with? Before SCD, he didn't really like raw pears or apples (although he eats them cooked), but what about berries, watermelon, cantaloupe... these were some of his favorites! One last question... How much yogurt is too much? He is eating now about half a cup to 3/4 cup of nut yogurt (cashew or almond) a day, but he would eat more if I let him. He likes to put " cream " , which is strained yogurt with every desert I serve (cookies, muffins, cake, cooked fruit...) Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge. Guest guest
" How much yogurt is too much? " how many times do you want to make yoghurt is also the question... Personally I decreased the amounts because I am not able nor prepared to make nut yoghurt every day. And with smaller amounts Nick is still doing OK. Guest guest
Hi Coral, > Monday we are starting week 12 in SCD... I was thinking about > starting to introduce whole nuts. Which ones are more digestible? Whole nuts are pretty difficult to digest unless chewed well and the bowel has healed quite a bit. That said, if the bowels are ready I believe that pecans are good whole nuts to start with. After that, blanched almonds (minus the skins). > He had eaten some walnuts at the end of the first month (before we > knew better...) I believe that the peaches are better than unpeeled grapes. The grapeskins are pretty tough to digest. > what about berries, watermelon, cantaloupe... these > were some of his favorites! Cantaloupe, honey dew melon are good choices to go with next. Why not check out http://www.pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#beyond It's all laid out for you > > One last question... Elaine recommends about two cups of cow or goat yogurt for children and approximately three cups of yogurt for adults. Since you are using nut yogurt try to use a different source of nut flour for your baked goods etc. You don't want to overload on any one food or nut. If a make a quantity for 3 days would it last the same as goat's yogurt ot does it need to be prepared daily? Thanks, Barschi

Nut yoghurt, like any homemade yoghurt, is good for at least two weeks, provided that you take out the amounts with a clean spoon always. Marjan (I meant that when your child eats two cups a day you'd have to make yoghurt every day because that's the maximum amount a common yoghurt maker can produce daily)
