AUTISTIC LICENSE Film Information Country of Origin: USA Year: 2009 Language: English Genre: Documentary Interest: Documentary Running Time: 89 min Format: HDCAM Director: Stacey Dinner-Levin’ Synopsis Autistic License is a docudrama, a true-to-life play that takes audiences on the rollercoaster ride of raising a child with Autism. It's a sometimes exhausting, sometimes exhilarating, often hilarious, frequently terrifying trip that informs, enlightens and entertains. Dinner-Levin knows her material cold and delivers it with unflinching honesty. Director Biography Stacey Dinner-Levin received an MA in Human Development from St. ’s University and a BA in both Social Work and Women’s Studies from the University of Minnesota. For five years she led the PACER “Count Me In†program promoting disability awareness to school children. Two of her scripts dealing with autism and ADHD are still in use by PACER. Her one-act short “Preaching to the Choir†was part of Illusion Theater’s “Festival of Lights.†Her writings on autism have appeared in national newsletters and are used by physicians and support groups nationwide. She and her husband, actor Le vin (who plays the role of their autistic son), have four boys, the eldest of whom was diagnosed with autism in 1993. “Autistic License†is Dinner-Levin’s first full-length play, and premiered at the Illusion Theater. This play is based upon our experience of raising a child with autism; the things that happened in our family that were tragic, surreal and funny. This is the kind of stuff you can’t make up! Nobody sees what goes on in families living with a disability. To me, theater was the perfect vehicle to tell this story and give a voice to all these families. I really wanted to open the doors, take down the walls of our house and say; Come in, take a good look, see this for what it is: the struggle of my life, along with the beauty and the joy. - Stacey Dinner-Levin Showtimes Sunday, November 1 Cinema Paradiso 10:30 AM Cost General Admission $10.00 | Seniors and Students $8.00 | FLIFF Members $6.00 | FREE with FAST PASS | Tax Deductible Donation $25 Contact Information "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass... it's about learning how to dance in the rain."
