Sherry,

I am amazed. 120 oz of liquid gold. What a friend you are. I am so glad

that you have been able to accomplish so much. I don't understand what you

mean about the other list. Another list won't let you talk about us?

I am glad the thrush is doing better. Thrush is horrible and soo painful!

I met the mom through my sister and another list. She lives in Northern VA

and she comes down every 3 weeks to pick up. So far I have given her about

200oz.

There will be the state LLL conference in N.VA in a few monthes. Are you

going? I am going to try.

Sherry,

Wow! You are wonderful for doing that! I had a friend give me some of her

milk donation

Hey all. I just got back from my LLL meeting. I also just gave another

mom

120 oz of EBM. I have been pumping for her son. I am just so proud of

myself and had to share. This is such a miracle that we are able to feed

our children both body and soul with our bodies. is doing GREAT! I

can not talk about what I do on another list because they do not feel it is

right so I have to tell someone. Hope yall will let me. If it had not

been

for the support of all of yall in the beginning when I was dealing with

thrush and s tongue tie problem then I would never had made it this

far. is almost 7 months old and has not had anything but Mommys

Milk!

Wow, Sherry - good for you! What a gift. Was this a mom you met at LLL?

What kind of list is the other list? They don't understand people sharing

breastmilk? I can relate, I'm on an April99moms list and out of 24 women,

only 6 are breastfeeding. We don't end up talking about breastfeeding much

for fear of making people feel guilty. (and yet there are endless posts

about formula and bottles) And some of those moms did breastfeed for a

number of weeks but still, it's bizarre how few still are breastfeeding at

2-3 months.

I go to a new moms support group in the area and something like 20 out of 22

moms are breastfeeding so that gives me hope that it's just an odd

coincidence that so few of my april moms are bfing. Or maybe it's a

regional thing - I'm in the DC area, maybe more educated moms (about bfing I

mean) and more support. I can go to 5 or 6 different LLL mtgs. if I want in

a month, it's wonderful.

Pretty interesting stuff.

And by the way, the thrush seems MUCH better, I'm having much less pain and

Corey seems fine. It's a riot to see his technicolor lips from the Gentian

Violet. I'm taking acidophilus, plus swabbing both of us with vinegar/water

solution. Thank you all so much for the advice and wisdom. Since I got the

thrush, I've talked to three women who " had to " stop bfing because of

thrush. So sad that they either got misinformation or had no support. I

feel very lucky. I do seem to have a decreased milk supply this week. I

think it's partially related to the fact that I haven't pumped at all in the

last week because I was in so much pain. So now I will start again since

the pain has gone away. Luckily, Corey does not seem hungry after feeding

but I swear, he eats for a minute or two and then my breast is soft and

fairly empty. But if he's not complaining, I guess we're okay, right? And

he's having plenty of wet diapers.

Okay, that's all for now. It's so nice to be off digest!

Part of it is that your body is getting used to nursing. Often around 12

weeks moms think their milk supply is going down because their breasts feel

soft. That just means your body finally figured it out and now it can be

more natural about it.

Sherry,

I just don't agree with that. The philosophy of breastmilk is best should

hold true. Talk about it all you like here. I think you are doing a great

service. That baby would be drinking 120 oz of formula if it weren't for

you.

I wouldn't be suprised if it is just an odd thing for so many moms in your

group TO BE breastfeeding. I think the rate of mothers who breastfeed after

1 month is soooo low I don't even wanna try and guess and after 6 months

don't even think about it :)

That's wonderful that you can help somebody out like that Sherry - I was just

wondering if all bm is the same, kindof like o positive blood, or would a

baby be able to tell the difference between different mom's bm? Just curious

:). Joan

Amy, here are the statistics:

Less than 50% start breastfeeding at all,

Of that number,

less than 22% are still BF at 5 months.

This figure drops to under 10% by 12 months.

You're right, it is too depressing to think about.

Can you send me some information about that?? I can fly for free from

here to Baltimore, MacGuire AFB, Norfolk or Dover... I might be able to

attend that one! Has the conference schedule been published yet?

Sherry,

That is *fabulous*! I'm so proud of you for wanting to help other

mothers feed breast milk, too!

Whoever told you that donating milk was against LLL guidelines is off

the wall. LLL has only one position, and that is that breast milk is

the superior infant food, perfect for the first year of life. I would

be interested in hearing what LLL guideline donating is against!

I think it is wonderful that your friend found someone she can trust as

much as you to consistently provide an amount of milk for her baby,

without it having lost valuable components in pasteurization!

No, I'm not on the pump list. I haven't needed to pump in almost a year

and a half. :) I have given some thought to donating milk -- and I

found out I still have plenty when (18 months) had a breast milk

poop two days ago! Unfortunately, there's no local milk bank here, and

shipping it back to the US wouldn't be affordable.

I also would love the information on this. I'm in N. Virginia! I'm not

currently involved with LLL but was just telling DH how I'd like to join!
