He'll briefly chew the chew toy the O.T. at school gives him, but he tires of it, and goes for the real things.

It also could be caused by the need for oral stimulation. My son had a chew toy he wore on a necklace. When he wanted to chew he just would chew that. Ask your OT for one.

For awhile it was accepted at his pre-k class because the teacher monitored it and was okay with it. It may or may not be accepted in school or other programs. In that case, and what we do now, is always have it on hand and give the rules for it. There have been times he chewed in am and on way to school and was fine until the afternoon.
