HI Patti,

Thanks for the welcome.

Troy is really minding the diet today; he's used to eating much more than he is

allowed. But, he'll get used to it.

We were off the diet, but not really off the diet. I still kept his portions

fairly small, and still gave him lots of margarine and mayo. I knew that

potatoes were a food that would cause seizures in Troy, so he only got a small

amount of them once in a while. I think we were probably on a .25:1 or so ratio

:)

I honestly expected to be started back at the 4:1 ratio. So was a bit surprised

when the 2:1 menus came up for me. They are still using menus that were made up

for him a couple of years ago, they need to be changed a bit...more calories

added and such. Troy was at one point getting 2400 calories a day; which always

amazed everyone, because it's a high amount for a child to get on the diet...but

he can eat like a pig and not gain an ounce...and at 9 he only weighs 50 lbs.

I'm babbling...getting tired again.

Hi Dorothy...... Welcome back. We're in the same boat with seizures

returning after weaning the diet three months ago. Hope things go well for Troy.

Starting at 2:1 and easing back in sounds like a good plan. I wonder why they

don't start every child off that way?

I don't know how old he is, but with those calories the keto diet

probably isn't effective. Does he have a metabolic disorder that is

affecting his ability to digest and utilize calories?

Hi Dorothy

Long time, no hear. Welcome back. I can imagine how hard it must be for

Troy to come back on, I have often thought how hard that would be on

Jess. Anyway, as you can tell we are still here - 5 yrs on the diet now.

Just out of curiousity - who was the neuro?? :)

We were in last month and Jess' dr was away - since our seizures came

back two weeks ago, the neuro we got was pushing drugs - topomax or the

new form of tegretol. I am thinking No thanks!

HI ,

Was wondering if you were still on the diet or not. We've been " on " since Dec

1997, so 5 years too....although the last 2 months were very relaxed.

The neuro was Dr. . She did part of her internship with Dr. Dooley, I

think. I know I met her at one point while she was still in " training " . As

soon as she found out he was on the diet, she recommended going back on it. She

is also going to put in a requisition for an MRI.

He's going to school today. Left his arm bracelet on so he could show his

teacher and classmates. I still have to write up a report to send with him, and

get a dose of Ativan ready to go with him.

Hi,

I was on this list a couple of years ago,and I'm back again.

My son, Troy, just got put back on the diet over the weekend. He had

a night full of grand mals (6-8 of them over 3 hours).

They started us back at a 2:1 ratio. He is having a hard time

adjusting to it, after being off the diet for a few months.

We ended up at the local children's hospital, and I was so impressed

that the doctors first words were " he's going back on the diet "

opposed to what I expected to hear; which was " lets try some

medications to control seizures " . :)
