I think your right Gracie but thans so much ffor the book review Eva

I got Shrink Yourself from the library on Friday. Here's a quick review. The author believes that if he can help people overcome their powerlessness with food, he can prevent emotional eating. The book includes this list: 10 Healthy Eating Habits You Should Adopt (by Gould, MD) #1 Listen to your body--stop eating when you're full, eat only when hungry#2 Manage your hunger--eat properly during the day so you won't lose control.#3 Bounce back--from poor food choices#4 Keep your weight in mind#5 Avoid junk food#6 Exercise enough#7 Control your portions#8 Prevent binges#9 Savor your food#10 Choose a balanced diet #1 and #9 agree with Intuitive Eating. The other "habits" seemed like diet mentality in my opinion. This is just my impression. I'm still new at this. Thanks so much for the review Eva

Right author, wrong book! Gould also wrote 10 Healthy Eating Habits You Should Adopt. I am reading Shrink Yourself right now and there is nothing of the such in it. . It is helping me determine the causes of my unhappiness which lead to my feelings of powerlessness. What an amazing book. I believe that anybody who reads the book Intuitive Eating and still fights with emotional eating, should read this book. It is allowing me to get a hold on my emotional eating. I see NO rules like that! Here's a review of the book:"This empowering book will allow you to lose weight by recognizing the emotional stumbling blocks in your life that contribute to your emotional eating. If you're fed up with yo-yo diets that leave you feeling frustrated, confused, and powerless, you owe it to yourself to read the wisdom in this book."

Thank you Gracie for that list and comments too. I'm with you - too much diet

mentality for me too. What I think those new to non-dieting would find

comforting about such a list is the DIRECTION is provides. Yet I have found that

the more I follow EXternal dictates, the more I not only rebel against these, it

also distracts my focus away from my own INternal directing which is what IE

encourages.

I would like to hear more from those who have read this book. I will now add

Gracie's review to the Book List too. The more reviews for each book, the better

other members can find what will help them best :)

I re-read Gracie's post and she said -

> I got Shrink Yourself from the library on Friday.

Gracie, could you please double check the title and perhaps publication date to

see if there are different copies saying different things?

I'm also wondering if a person who would publish such a list as Gracie copied

over for us to read, would not 'include' such thinking in his other books. Has

he changed his mind or does he advocate different 'programs'? Until the

questions about this book are resolved, I don't feel comfortable about including

it on the Book List. Any other opinions?

Thanks, Katcha

I agree totally! I just don't want it ruled out because it is all about working through emotional issues that lead to binges. I am currently online looking for the answer to your excellent questions, but my computer is acting up. I'm not sure Gould even wrote a book with that title, because I just looked at my collection and the book I was thinking about is called, "rules 4 normal eating" it is also not by Gould. This book really is a gem, and online sessions are offered where you can actually earn a "diploma" when you graduate (knowing all of your binge triggers).
