Need Dentist for 9 yr old autistic son who HATES going to the dentist

Hi - I'm looking for a dentist that does general anesthesia in their office and

is part of the Cigna PPO network. This is for my 9 yr autistic son who will not

sit in a dentist's chair even for them to look in his mouth. He must be out

completely for any service.

It would be great if this dentist was located within a 50 mile radius of Weston

I would very much appreciate any referrals. I don't want to have to go to a

dentist and then meet them at a hospital. I would like for everything to be

handled in their office and mostly covered by insurance.

Hi, I have taken my son to Pedatric Dentistry in Plantation for 10 years (Dr. Abby Willentz). I know that they do sedation but I don't know if they use general anesthesia. I know that many doctors are hesitant about using it too much since there is always a risk with it. If the child stops breathing or has a reaction--then you have a big problem.

Pediatric Dentistry has special chairs in the back rooms with nets and velcro for kids who get freaked out and flail around a lot. They get wrapped up like mummies. My son just had a few teeth pulled last year and the sedation had him so knocked out it was done quickly. The ladies who work there have the patience of saints.

The only test my ever had with general anesthesia was for an MRI, and only because it was absolutely necessary.

office told me they don't do sedation. - I will call them back and double check.

If you are willing to go to Coral Gables, I have the best dentist who will sedate. My son is 15 years old and has been so successful with overcoming dentist/sensory issues due to this office, the entire and humane treatment of our children. They even did braces for him.

Miami Children's Hospital has a dental clinic that caters to children with special circumstances and they sedate. The hospital setting is much safer if anesthesia will be necessary. Abbey Wilentz uses Versaid which works for most kids...but if you haven't seen what reaction your child has to it, its best to do it somewhere where they are prepared to deal with any situation.

Thanks everyone - keep the great suggestions coming.. i have gone down many of

the avenues you have suggested and appreciate all the great advice and specific

information (ie like the special chairs at Dr Abby's office) that you don't get

unless either you experience it or someone tells you.
