Guest guest
Gotta correct this one here! Jody used to tell me it was the day that people box up all their Christmas decorations etc...but that too is incorrect. Boxing Day is celebrated in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Britain (it originated in Britain), yet it seems most people these days see it as little more than another day off of work LOL. Boxing Day was the day when people gave to their "inferiors"...it was all about preserving class lines. Wealthier classes exchanged gifts with their peers on Christmas Day and gave to their servants or other peasant classes on Boxing Day. The origin of the exact name "Boxing Day" is unclear...some explanations suggest it was because the wealthy would box up the leftovers of their Christmas repast and give them to the poor or their servants. Another explanation is that years ago in Britain it was customary for servants to bring a small box to work the day after Christmas and their employers would deposit coins in them...an early form of the Christmas bonus. At any rate it has nothing to do with cardboard boxes, boxing decorations or boxing up the returns for the stores (Which are all common myths) Dawn wrote: Lori, That's what R was told via his Canadian branch of his company....I'm just the messenger D Re: Boxing Day for Lori/Conor NO WAY! Are you really serious? Is this for real? It's about putting out gift boxes? Lyssa, is she pulling my leg???
