Guest guest
Hi Becky, I also have IBS, and hadnt even thought about the after-surgery diet! I havent been to the doctor for IBS since I was a teenager, Im now 23, because they never seemed to be able to help me. Are there more treatment options now? Mine seems to come and go, sometimes I can eat anything, and sometimes a dairy or greasy/ high fat meal will kill me. I have problems at least twice a month tho. I dont really have any help as far as surgery and diet cuz' I hadnt thought about it (Sorry!), just wondered if you could give me a little info on the current treatments for IBS so maybe it would be worthwhile to see my doctor about it. Thanks! -Nikki ruup4nik@... > Hi all, > I'm new here, so here goes. I'm 41 (42 in April) and I'm having > upper/lower for a Class III open bite. Guest guest
Hi Nikki, Thanks so much for the reply! It's good to know I'm not alone here! I saw a gastroenterologist (GI) doc a coupla years ago and he did a sigmoidoscopy test. It's a quick procedure that involves a thin, flexible tube that goes up you-know-where. It's not that bad, trust me. Anyway, the object is to detect any polyps, etc. in your lower colon. I have none. My doc told me the test should feel like the cramping feeling I get when I have an IBS attack. And it did. Bottom line is this: read all you can about IBS. I pretty much diagnosed myself. Check out a GI doc and tell him how you feel. There are meds to ease the pain, cramping and diarrhea, such as antispasmodics. Relaxation is important, too. I do yoga once in a while to help. Remember, stress is the biggest trigger for IBS. Hope this helps. By the way, what kind of surgery are you having and when? Are you as nervous as I am? Good luck!
