Guest guest
Great job of explaining that Liz! The hair stood up on the back of my neck when I saw someone recommend an FBA for a 10 minute issue. I was recommended to do an FBA because my child use to put his head down on his desk or go into the bathroom when overwhelmed. Tools he was taught so he didnt disrupt the other students. He would only need 10 or 15 minutes then he would regroup & join back into the class. Requesting an FBA was the worst thing I ever did. It opened my son up to a world I never knew existed............ Restraints. My child started being restrained for what was being viewed as noncompliance. Whether it has happened to you or not, Restraint & Seclusion is real and children are being emotionally & physically harmed, in some cases killed. Guest guest
A child or adult should never, never be restrained for noncompliance. That's awful that happened.Sent from my iPhone Great job of explaining that Liz! The hair stood up on the back of my neck when I saw someone recommend an FBA for a 10 minute issue. Guest guest
OMG Who ever did that FBA should loose their license. Most FBAs have taking a time out instead of throwing a tantrum as a goal not as the behavior that needs to be changed. Restraints because their kid put their head on a desk. Just imagine if as adults our work place was the same way. " Oh your chatting at the water cooler when you should be working time for the boss to tie you to a chair. " Wtf I am so sorry that happened to your kid . I have seen many FBAs preformed and watched as a kid's behavior was changed because people took the time to figure out what a kid needed. That is what a Functional Behavior Analysis is about finding an answer with out being punitive. I am so sorry that such a porly trained person had access to your child. Guest guest
, You obviously haven't read the works of Israel. ly, as bad as that scenario is... there is a whole lot worse. I've experienced worse. I'm not unique in this. That said, yes, I agree with your assessment of the compotency and ethics of the person doing the FBA in question... although an FBA is a Functional Behavior Assessment, not analysis (sorry -- nitpicking). I'm just not shocked by the idea. I stopped that sometime around when I started reading, in the academic literature, stories of people's behavior being modified by idiots wielding literal cattle prods (and making improvised modifications to said cattle prods in order to increase their " effectiveness " on people). Incidentally, I haven't heard any reports of the people in question losing their licenses, either. The lesson of this? Be very, very careful of who you trust. I could tell you horror stories that would utterly chill most of the people on this list -- stories of abuse so abominable that I've seen professional abuse councilors react with what can only be described as horrified shock. Many of these were sanctioned by the educational system. Many more were done in the name of " treatment " . I'm not saying that parents shouldn't trust their child's teachers (although there certainly are teachers you shouldn't trust!), but rather that the parent's role in protecting their children is of an importance that cannot -- and should not -- be underestimated. To those parents reading this -- please, for the sake of your children, be careful. -- Cheezem aspieperspective.blogspot.com OMG Who ever did that FBA should loose their license.
