Guest guest
Hi Everyone... Went to the Dr today and asked him some questions. I was a bit disapointed with the answers. Alot different the the ones igot from the nutrientist(SP)... I had asked the dr when I could expect to start being able to eat more. As a Firefighter /Paramedic I Dont have the luxery to sit and eat 6 or 7 meals a day. I had asked how long till I gained more room in the pouch to be able to cut down to the basic 3 meals and get enough food in to maintain a certain calorie level. My Dr said that the pouch will never stretch due to way he sewed it. Before the surgery when i went to the nutrionist they said that the pouch started at about 60CC and would get to about 100cc..... Which is still quite small but would then hold about 4-5 oz total of food per sitting... Which they compared to eatting a whole hotdog and maybe couple mouthfuls of beans. Now is where the disappointment comes in. My bosses are afraid i will not get enough nutrients each day to maintain my position. within my station. Especially any of you who know firefighters when eatting in station there is rare times that you get to sit and eat slowly. With the job also the calorie burn is alot greater due to the stresses of the gear we wear and working in certain conditions. At a fire we can burn 800-2000 calories easily, I am barely taking in 300 a meal right now. It is unfortunate to say but if this is true and I will not be able to maintain and return to somewhat better eatting then i am now it could cost me all i have worked for .....I could be moved from the streets to a dispatcher.... I now am regretting my decision for this surgery. I know i was heavy but i did my job and it wasnt that bad with the extra weight... I actually asked if it was reversible today. ..... Sorry to be saying this but things are rough right now for me.... I dont know where my future lies.... PLEASE someone tell me there Dr said that they would not ever eat normally and that there pouch wont stretch a bit to compensate for a little more food and it did.......... Please give me some hope.... I know this surgery is a tool to losing weight and I plan to use it wisely but understand where i am coming from as far as my job and future..... I see some of you on this group eatting normally just small portions my Dr says I wont eat more then 2-3 mouthfuls of anything solid...... he says 1oz-2oz if i am lucky....
