Guest guest
I am going through this too a little bit, my daughter is 13 as well and she has always been very slim! She still is and so far has a pretty healthy approach to eating but I too am trying to be a better role model for self-acceptance and reasonable eating habits! In a way it's good to have those little watchers because it keeps me honest ... or least honester One thing we have an issue with in our household is with 4 kids we don't want to waste food, nor do we want to spend our days as short-order cooks. Therefore, no one is allowed to leave much food on the plate - but we try to do this by controlling the initial portion sizes (everyone gets a small serving of everything, and when it's done they can have more of whatever they want) rather than forcing a kid to eat past fullness. Also, one dinner is served and they all have to eat at the same time. dinner time is dinner time! BUT I try to fit this necessity (as I see it at least) into some flexibility - if a kid is hungry they can certainly have a snack at 5pm when dinner is at 6, but I may 'guide' them in their choice and quantity And every so often we have Backwards Day, when we eat dessert first, or have dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner etc... Mikki Okay. LIke I said, I haven't checked in often enough and had to respond to all the posts that were new to me all at once. lol So anyway... I'm really hoping that IE will help and benefit my dd as well as me. She had quite a healthy outlook on food (push away the plate when full, save a choc. bar for 6 months and enjoy it, etc.) She gained some belly weight with early puberty (and although I could have been a lot worse) I have now changed my poor dd's healthy attitude toward food into a prediet mentality. I think at 13, I have caught this early enough so that my learning about IE will pass on to her and she can go back to her normal, healthy self. I really hope.
