Hi all. Thank each and every one of you for your honest

expressions. I have been approved for surgery and am now in the

process of getting all of my ducks in a row. Here is my situation.

My husband and I have two children, a 10 year old and a 2 year

old " special needs " child. My hospital is 3 1/2 hours away and my

hubby just started a new job and can't take much time off at all. My

mom has offered to come from Wisconsin to help me out (I'm in

Florida) but I want her to come when it is most beneficial. I will

be in the ICU for the first 24 hours and discharged home two or three

days later if all goes well. Hubby will probably be there the day of

surgery, but with all the nurses available (even if they are short

staffed) and being doped up on pain meds and not really feeling like

visiting, is it worth it to have someone there with me during my

hospital stay? Since mom can only stay for a few days, would it be

better for her to help me out when I get home?

Any input is appreciated!

Thanks,

Maureen
