Guest guest
I have to assume you know if your third grade class is using the same program. I also have to assume if your daughter was receiving that specific program for reading in the regular class (mainstream) she is using what all the 3rd grade classes are using in Broward County. I go back to my original reply and say, " call the school! " Ask them what the other 3rd grade classes are using in Broward Schools. I'm sorry but it seems to me that you are making a simple concern into a complicated one. From: sList [mailto:sList ] On Behalf Of meandmyraingirl@... Hello, Do any of you with current 3rd graders in Broward public school using the Reading Triumphs Intervention series in your school? I ask because last school year my then 2nd grade daughter was using that series during her mainstream time and did okay. But I'm not sure if now in 3rd grade the gen ed class will use this. Thanks. Believe me when I tell you that I am not shy about asking my child's school anything that I think would benefit my kid. Guest guest
I think Broward county at the last minute decided to implement this series in grades 3 to 5. It is already in place for the primary grade levels. It is new and very expensive, and I think Broward asked the State if the State could put it (grade levels 3-5) on hold for another year due to the budget crisis. Therefore none of the teachers were offered training last spring, and I don't think the teachers have been trained yet. So I think it is coming. There are other programs approved for reading, but all the students should receive "scaffolded reading instruction" in the gen ed reading series. It is imperative for all parents to ask the teacher, the ESE specialist and the reading specialist about the intervention programs used for the kids. We need to observe the reading instruction provided at the school, and we need to follow up and be on top of this. I found some of this info by googeling "broward county reading intervention" and "the struggling readers chart".
