Guest guest
Hi Ramona: Please Ramona let me know what school is working for you. I have a big doubt about placing my son in a closter at Hollywood area. Looking also for the best for him to start Kindergarden. Thank You Jeannette To: sList Sent: Tuesday, July 28, 2009 10:39:49 PMSubject: Advice/Opinion on sending my son to Pembroke Pines Charter Elementary Hello fellow posters:I am very new here and found this wealth of information so refreshing and thanks to a Generation Rescue Angel who pointed me in the right direction. Initially my interest here was to seek a DAN protol physician in the West/SW broward area, which I started to look thanks to all the resourceful mom's here :)My question now is: I applied via their lottery registration for admission for my 5 year old boy (who is on the Spectrum). He isvery language/speech delayed/echoes. No extreme behaviors, but socially isolates himself from play with others and has speech/finemotor delays and laugage processing.. .doesn't seem to understand instructions? I was called and given the opportunity to enroll him in this school'sAutism program (that is language based and came recommended to me byanother mom of an Asperger's child who I met at speech therapy sessions).I am faced with 2 choices: 1 ) Pembroke Pines Charter Elementary-FSU (autism program).2 ) Or the cluster at my neighborhood elementary school which I was told by other mom's that might be too restrictive/ not with mainstream kids at all?Anyone have insight on this Charter school specifically?Your input is greatly appreciated. ...Ramona
Guest guest
Dear Ramona: My son got accepted as well to this program. I have only heard great reviews about this program. Specifically from a parent that works at the school and has an austic son, who is not ready for the program yet. My advice/opinion is if you had the to luck to have been picked out of hundreds of applicants in the lottery you should at least try it. I know many people that want to this opportunity. You will not loose your spot at your home school, if you change your mind. Although I must tell you this is NOT a cluster program it is for very high functioning kids with minimal behaviors. I know a couple of parent advocates that have told me this. Did you go to an interview with your child? They gave me alot of information on that day, they also read my sons IEP who was recommended for gen. ed. for kindergarden, and has minimal behaviors and said that he would be a great fit for the program. I hope this helps!
