I urge you to send a certified letter to the school requesting that copies of

your child's records be forwarded. Keep a copy of the letter for yourself and

send a copy to the school district where your child will be enrolled. You may

want to point out to the administrator of the school that your child is leaving

that they are required by law to provide the information. Under Fla. Stat. Ch.

232.021 the school must make the records available and open to inspection by the

local school superintendent or attendance assistant. They must provide

information to the public school system in your area.

Also the school must file a database survey form with the Florida Department of

Education. If this is not done, the state dept. of education will be notified

and action can be taken.

I hope this will get results for you. Good luck.

Hi Marcie

Actually, I was introduced to my advocate through a friend.  I suggest you send a separate post asking this question.  I really am not sure of the route to take.

Caroline

Hi all

I am at the end of my tether.  I am a single mom of two autistic boys, full time student, about to move house and put my kids into public school for the first time which I am already concerned about.

I have tried to be prepared.  I have a great (fantastic!) advocate who is waiting for me to register to the boundried schools so we can get certain things in place before the boys start school.  I have had records/completed paperwork etc. from my eldest son's school and therapists with no problems at all but I am finding it impossible to get the records from my youngest son's private school in Davie.  I had an arrangement with the principal that she would have everything back to me eight weeks ago and still nothing.  My texts and phone messages are not even being responded to any more (they were initially responded to with messages that she had more important things to do) and I know for a fact she is around.

At the end of term (beginning of June) I made arrangements with the principal to pay the last month's tuition as soon as I could but that this would not hold up the paperwork.  I have left messages that I have the tuition to pay to her but still no response.

Can anyone give me any advice?

Thanks.
