Canned fruit in its own juice is legal

Examples: Dole Pineapple slices packed in own juice.

Not legal: canned fruits in own juice with pear juice added.

The only legal canned fruit that I know if is pineapple.

The other canned fruits that I have seen are not canned in their

OWN juice, but in the juices of other fruits.

I cooked the canned pineapple when we were just starting out. I

just assumed it was like raw pineapple. But I don't honestly

know. I don't think anyone has ever asked before (at least not

that I can remember).

It tastes really good cooked with the apples and pureed into the

applesauce. The pineapple gives it a tropical flavor like those

storebought flavored applesauces.

I remember this coming up a long time ago. The pineapple in the cans does get

cooked in the canning process.
