Sorry I wasn't meaning to imply you were a criminal or anythign I was just

wondering. I was just remembering a post from a LONG time ago on this list

when someone did that. I myself nursed my cousins baby once.

I would too. I wouldn't nurse another baby that wasn't mine again not that I

see anythign wrong with it. It just felt really wrong.

My Aunt's who both had baby's within weeks of eachother used to leave there

baby's with there sister and nurse them all the time but for me I didn't like

it. I felt like I was doing somthing wrong and I would never want anyone to

nurse .

No I am a big support of milk bank in total I have given over 50 pounds of

milk to them. And I am collecting more now. So I can without question say I

do think there shoudl be milk banks.

As strange as it may sound I don't think I would give him milk from a milk

bank. I don't know much about Milk banks but the one I donated too just

wanted me to fax them my blood work from my Ob. Who is to say that was even

MY blood work I faxed them. Maybe some sick crazy person could donate milk

who has some bad thing and pass it along to other children. (A long shot I

My baby is like this. will eat baby food or cereal, will drink juice

from a sippy cup, but not BM. So I would just hope that a really good friend

of mine (she's nursing a 9 month old) would nurse if something were

to happen to me. I have friends who have just switched babies and nursed each

other's children for fun. I wouldn't do that, but if Audrey needed me to

nurse her I would, or if needed to nurse her, I HOPE she

would, and I'd be more than happy to let her. Just wanted to add my $0.02.

No Amy, I don't think you are goofy! Some people would do some crazy things!

I don't know If could use milk from a milk bank either, I would first try to

find another woman I knew, willing to donate it for me

I don't know if I would be able to give my baby some STRANGER'S Milk

either....just as I would not let just ANYBODY nurse Lexi.

So no it does not sound goofy to me

Tammy,

That is also a very GOOD point, and as I THINK I said before, or if not I

meant to, past a certain age, not very many kids WOULD nurse from someone

other than their mother, I know Lexi would not

UNLESS she was REALLY needing that closeness, I highly doubt even then she

would, because to Her it is NOT the same, and she does not want someone else,

She wants her MOMMY...

At the age our babies are it is more of a closeness thing, than hunger, Lexi

if she was hungry would GLADLY take a sandwhich or something

But when they are younger it is hunger, and I would certainly not want my

baby to go hungry, when there was BM available, and would prefer that over

formula anyday

Tiffani,

You are certainly not the only one on the list that was affected by my

post. I personally would be happy that someone cared enough to help my

baby when I was unavailable, which was the attitude of my long-time friend

when she returned. I certainly wouldn't have nursed someone's baby who I

barely knew. I certainly wouldn't nurse your baby. I, however, feel that

the benefits of breastmilk far outweigh any threat that I may feel from

someone else nursing my baby. If I was unavailable or couldn't nurse for

some reason I would hope there would be someone kind enough to want to help

my baby. I also attempted to nurse another friend's baby (with her

permission) as she was suffering terribly from eczema on her nipples. Do

you think that there shouldn't be bank milk either? What about someone

else nursing your baby makes you so uncomfortable? What if it was a dear

friend? What if you were unavoidably delayed? Would you prefer your baby

to cry until you returned or would you rather that your baby had its need

met? I am just trying to understand where you are coming from. :D

just curious if you believed in milk banks. Feel free to ask my questions

I have been watching this whole " nursing another baby " episode with a

lot of interest. I can see both sides of the story and as for me I

would just feel weird doing it but I think It's ok. I would feel weird

because of the intimacy issue. It has been for my daughter and i a

wonderful bonding experience that has been a hard road with many

rewards. Just like if after 5 years of marriage what if your dh (god

forbid) were to go out and have an affair. That is an intimacy that you

hold dear and for men its mostly ike something that they just " need " to

do. We put a lot of emotions into things as women and its also why we

feel so strong aout nursing our children. Plus if we were in another

country where this was more commonplace, we wouldn't feel so passionate

about it. We would be able to seperate emotion from literal hunger. I

think I would also be scared too of what my baby could catch from

another, what if the mom ate or drank something my baby was allergic

too? But I know I love her enough that if it came down to someone else

nursing her, I would be thankful she didn't go hungry. Babies don't

care who loves them as long as someone does : ) >)))>

Someone posted that formula is the 4th best choice for a baby-- someone help

me out here

1-bm from the source

2- ebm

3??

4-formula

I would want my baby to have breastmilk if I couldn't nurse her- and if it

was straight from a breast- all the better. I think I posted previously that

my sis and I made arrangements w/ each other to b/f each other's babies if

one of us couldn't. Then we found out she has Hep C. She never nursed my

daughter, but I still wonder if she shouldn't- although at this point it is

moot, because Maddie at 16 months wouldn't even try someone else's nummies.

My sister's son doesn't have Hep C and the docs told her the best thing to

prevent him from getting it is breastmilk, because it contains anti-bodies

to the virus. As far as HIV being transmitted through breastmilk- much is

still uncertain. Has anyone read Mothering magazine lately?? There is a very

good article on it.

>as I have gotten more harsh responses off list.<

Sorry you had to deal with that Wendi-- I really hate when someone does that

and I think it's mighty cowardly of them.

Wendi,

Yes, I am so sorry that people are writing about this to you off list. This

is the place to discuss these topics. Everyone's opinion will be respected,

even if we all don't agree. My friend who is sitting here - thrush battler-

says she certainly would nurse one of my kids if necessary. I told her she

was damn right she would!!! LOL

Tiffani,

Part of the reason there are so many wicked germs out there is because we

have become so germ crazy. By using " antibacterial " everything we are

causing even mild bacteria to mutate into antibiotic resistant germs that

are untreatable with modern medicine. Going back to basics like Vinegar

which bacteria don't mutate for is a better way to deal with germs.

After I thought about it, I have a cousin who just weaned her baby and I

would not be upset or " weirded out " if she was to nurse my daughter and if

necessary, I would nurse her daughter without a second thought. but other

than that, I would still be uncomfortable...but i got a germ/disease

fixation

so it may have something to do with that( i carry antibacterial wipes

EVERYWHERE). Which is why I pump milk all the time....wanna make sure my

baby

is adequately prepared in case something happens As far as the milk

bank..that would be fine if someone wanted to use it...i probably never

would..

Wendi,

Thanks you for such a neat story. I guess I will gross people out also and

say that I have had someone nurse 1 time and I received milk from a

friend for Kaitlyn while I tried to relactate. I am now pumping milk for a

lady I met on another list that has real supply issues. I had never met

her til she picked up the first load. I am pumping 8-12 oz daily for her

child along with nursing my own boy. I would much rather go with human milk

then formula. I am sorry you had such a negative response here and

off-list. I think everyone should have posted to the list. Again what you

did is awesome! Don't let anyone tell ya different.

I am so surprised that iron fortified formula ranks right above goat's and

cow's milk and that non iron fortified formula is equal to them. I would

never consider giving my baby goat's or cow's milk! How could I consider

giving them formula?! This is information that I will definitely remember

and use.

Blithe,

I have given goat milk and don't give formula. I have supplemented both my

kids with goat milk at one time or another. They tolerated it great. The

one time I gave formula to my dd she projectile vomitted it all across the

room. Never even a tummy ache with goat milk. Breastmilk is the best

choice by far. I really just can't get past the smell of formula. Also I

was in K-mart the other day and picked up a can of premixed formula. The

first three ingredients? Water, Sugar and High Fructose Corn syrup. Boy

that sounds like good nutrition.
