anxiety meds for 11 year old with autism

Hi,Has anyone had a good experience with anxiety meds? If so which ones and what side effects if any? I have never tried any meds with my son and he is starting middle school. Should I wait and start him later after he has been in school for awhile?Thanks

Ana,

I would find an experienced mental health therapist or a psychologist who is practicing at a therapy center first. Then, I would consult with the therapist about medication. Your child may benefit from group sessions as well as individual sessions. Some therapists suggest that the entire family participates. The child may have anxieties that are rooted in what family members tell the child.
