Guest guest
The truth about auditory integration training and headphones is that the concept of not wearing headphones afterwards is based on a theoretical notion that if AIT, which is a music-based program, has helped your child, then it would be possible that utilizing headphones (for listening to music only) could undo the improvement. This is the recommended protocol. You can allow your child to listen to other information through headphones, just not music. I will tell you that I performed AIT on my son on a yearly basis for many years. I did not allow him to listen to music through headphones. Eventually, the hearing sensitivities went away completely, and we no longer needed AIT. I then allowed him to listen to music through headphones and he did not have a problem.. But he was much older. If you have a young child who is experiencing hearing sensitivities, and you have found that AIT has helped them, I would not recommend taking a chance by allowing them to wear headphones with music until they are older and the hearing sensitivities have vanished completely.
