Sue,

As a parent whose child just got diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, I would

highly recommend you take your son to your pediatrician and get a urine

test. Is he wanting lots of water? I don't want to scare you but when we

brought my daughter in to the hospital she was urinating so much and needing

water like a drug. Her blood sugar was over 700 and we caught it before

diabetic coma.

Maybe it is nothing but just a warning to think about.

frequent urination

> This has been discussed before BUT- My son is needing to urinate about

every 30 minutes- I thought at first it might be die-off or something but it

seems to have been going on since May? yesterday at summer school his aide

said he had to use the restroom 8 times in the 2 1/2 hours he was at school?

He doesn't seem to be in pain and the urine doesn't have any unusal color or

smell- Any ideas why this is happening?

Sue -

My son has been on the diet for 9 months now and we had the exact

same problem. Zachary had been fully potty trained for a year prior

to starting SCD, but began wetting the bed multiple times at night

and running to the bathroom every five minutes during the day. It

got so bad, I almost took him off the diet even though I feel it is

helping him very much.

I did take him to be screened for diabetes and urinary tract

infection and both tests came back negative.

It turned out to be a magnesium deficiency. I use WaterOz

magnesium. I give him 1/2 tsp. every day and he immediately stopped

wetting the bed. I had tried magnesium oxide and epsom baths and

neither of these things stopped the frequency or the wetting. Some

people have had success with magnesium citrate.

I also make sure to give him his calcium supplement at least 4-5

hours away from the magnesium supplement. If I give it closer than

that, he will wet the bed at night.

The primary source of magnesium for people on a standard diet is

whole grains. Some of the nuts on the diet can be a good source of

magnesium but others are not.

We still sometimes have frequency, but nothing like before. I think

some of this is just related to the diet and/or yeast dieoff at times

but we rarely have accidents when we supplement with a form of

magnesium that Zachary can absorb.

Hope this helps.

Zachary 4.9 SCD 9 months

Thank you for your reply- I have really been worrying and trying to figure

this out! Where would I get WaterOz mag. supplement and also what kind of

calcium supplement do you use?

Many thanks! Sue

Thank you, thank you for this discussion on frequent urination. We have had

this problem for TWO years, have had tons of testing, and my son's been on

hyperactive bladder medication for some time just so he can spend some time in

the

classroom rather than running to the bathroom every fifteen minutes. I am

really wondering if this magnesium thing isn't the real cause and I've ordered

some WaterOz magnesium.

results! Stopped by school yesterday and the nurse told me he couldn't believe

how

much E. is talking these days!)
