Guest guest
Hi all, I just signed up on the list but I've been trying to follow SCD for about a month for my ds who is probably PDD. We have had him on feingold for the past 2 years +, went gfcf about a year ago and now I think he needs more. When I first started him w/SCD he did great, then he slipped back to his old problems and now since Tuesday he's been on the starter diet - nothing to eat since then except hard boiled eggs, chicken pancakes, chicken soup (made w/chicken, carrots and eggs) and hamburger patties. Today I gave him some gelatin I made w/Knudson Creamed Papaya nectar (grape juice is too high salycilate level for him). He's back to seeing the improvements I saw at first but now I'm not sure how quickly I can start adding in other legal foods. He especially would like to have his favorite SCD snack - pork skins w/cashew butter (almonds are also too high salycilate content for him). I'm sure someone asks this question just about every day so thanks for bearing with us newbies!! Blessings, K
Guest guest
K, Sorry to upset you. It has been a topic of discussion MANY times. But none of the Knudsen juices are allowed except the ones in the JUST JUICE line which I posted yesterday. If you want to make mango gelatin, just put a couple of mangos through a juicer and I am sure you will get plenty of juice to make it. Guest guest
K Wow! You do have your hands full. I haven't done this myself, but I've heard of others soliciting the volunteer help of an elderly retired person or possibly from a college student. Maybe you can ask at a local school, your neighbors, a church, or community center. You can have the person come to your house if possible and provide the ingredients and teach them how to make a few staples for you. Then you can freeze, and use as necessary. Just a suggestion. Guest guest
..... If you really need to use this juice right now, and you feel confident about it, I think you should go ahead. Life couldn't be more hectic for a mom than it must be for you right now. I've been a homeschooling mom for the past TWENTY years straight.... believe it or not..... of at least one or more of my four kids. Now my oldest son has moved back in with us, with his two daughters! So.... I feel for you. If I were pregnant right now with my 8th... and someone told me I had to make my own papaya juice, I'd wanna wring their neck. All we ask is this.... if you don't see the progress you'd like to see, or were expecting to see in your child, please consider pulling the juice and using something else. Oh.... and remember to dilute it! My daughter drinks only water or " lemonade " , which I make by squeezing a wedge of fresh lemon juice into her water, and adding a tidge of sweetener. Couldn't be easier. She won't drink any of the legal juices. Best to you and yours.... Patti, mom to Katera, SCD almost 14 months Re: Re: Newbie - now what? There was a lot of discussion about Knudsen juices.... and the final determination was that the " just juice " ones were legal..... but that the others are not. Unfortunately, the just juice ones are all too high in salycilate content. The ingredients for the creamed papaya are only " papaya puree and concentrated papaya puree " . From my fg experience, I know we can't always trust labels but what exactly would be in this that would be illegal? I know it might seem like a huge hassle.... but if you can get fresh papayas, and you have a juicer, you could make your own..... Quite frankly, I think I am really going to struggle with the SCD b/c it will take even more work. I am a homeschooling mom to 8 kids (number 8 is due in August), four of whom have special needs. I already devote a lot of time to making our food feingold compliant for the others. I just have a feeling that SCD is going to help my Philip and I really want to do it for that reason but I am tapped out of time and resources to do a whole lot of extras for him. I welcome any tips that will make this any easier. I have the book on order so maybe I can answer my own questions once I get a better grasp on things. Blessings, K Mom to 8 incl.
