Guest guest
Do you have the book? He should not be having raw fruits and veggies yet if you are only 2.5 months in. All veggies need to be peeled and cooked for now. Especially if you are seeing any digestive difficulties. Sunflower seeds are definitely not legal at this point. If you introduce nuts, maybe you should go with nut butters.... instead of the nut flour for now. Definitely not whole nuts or seeds. I hope you have a copy of Breaking the Vicious Cycle. Patti, mom to Katera, SCD almost 14 months RE: Re: Newbie whose been lurking... Here's the scoop on what's been going on... We started the diet without doing the intro diet. We have since had a four or five day period where he had no nut or seed products but was eating raw cucumber and carrots. His other main stay during that period was chicken, eggs, pear sauce (pureed pears that had been canned in their own juice) and small amounts of fresh fruit (strawberries and blueberries). To drink was mostly water (reverse osmosis) and welch's grape juice (purple and white) 50/50 with water. He did not vomit at all while on the above diet. I slowly allowed some nut products and a few sunflower seeds (I roasted them with olive oil and added some salt). That was on a Tuesday and by Friday night after school he was vomiting again. We cut out the nuts and seeds again. On the Sunday I made some of the almond muffins. Monday morning he was complaining again and by 1pm up came breakfast (cucumber and 2 mini-muffins) and his morning snack (2 mini-muffins). This latest episode happened after I sent the message to the board. I'm thinking it looks like it's too soon for nuts. has always had a sensitive stomach. Pre SCD days he might have a vomiting episode ever 2 or 3 months. He never had a fever with it and after being sick every hour or so for about 6-8 hours he would be fine and want to eat. It seemed as if the vomit was just bile not food that had been sitting around. The more recent bouts since the SCD was started seem to be more correlated to food in that he is not digesting what's in his tummy and it eventually comes up. He has probably had 5 or 6 episodes since he's been on it (2.5 months). I'm pretty certain that everything he is eating is legal but perhaps he's not ready for some of it. Hope this helps to paint a better picture of what's been going on... Thanks for your help...I'm feeling like I'm at the end of the preverbial rope... Guest guest
Thanks to all who responded to my queries... Yes, I do have the book...we clearly have jumped in much to quickly with things. I wanted to get started so badly but didn't have the time to do it right since we were in the middle of a move. We are settled now and I'm committed to getting it right this time. Sometimes it just helps to hear somebody say what you already know... I guess we'll consider today his first real day on SCD (after breakfast since he had canned pears (no surgar added)). After reading the posts last night I made some jello from gelatin and Welchs grape juice (should this be diluted?) It went over better than expected. Bought some pears this morning to make my pear sauce. It sure is daunting but what price can we put on seeing our kids reach there full potential. Thanks again... Cheryl mom to - 6 ASD?
