Hi ,

I'm also Canadian, but have been living outside of Canada since 1992. I

think support (or lack of) for extended bfing really depends on where you

are. Here in Virginia, I almost never see women bfing in public, which I do

fairly regularly. However, out on the islands of the West Coast of Canada,

where my DD#2 was born, boobs are popping out all over the place.

If you're happy and the baby's happy, I say go for it. I bf DD#1 until

almost 2 1/2 but my DS self-weaned at 9 mos. Actually I think it was a

nursing strike, and I wish I'd known more about them and how to handle them.

Anyway, welcome to the list

Welcome from a fellow Canadian :-) I'm Michele, mom of the 2 1/2

listed in my sig line. Keely is the only one I've bf so far and she's still

going, even though my pregnancy :-)

We live in Edmonton be are originally from Richmond Hill, just north of

Toronto. We lived there when Arran was born and I knew almost no one who bf

and if they did they only did it for 6 weeks to 6 months or whenever they

went back to work. None of them were SAHM's or thought of continuing to

nurse once they went back to work. So when I ran into difficulty trying to

bf Arran I didn't have anyone to ask for advice, I didn't even know LLL or

lactation consultants exhisted and no one told me.

There is a differant climate out here in the Edmonton area, I knew a lot of

bfing moms just in my playgroup in a small town I lived in for a year until

last month and most of them are extended nursers :-) There were quite a few

homebirthers too. No one even batted an eye when I nursed 21 month old

Keely at playgroup when she was distressed, one of the moms even said she

was happy to see us still " doing that " because she was too :-) Now Calgary

on the other hand..... is the opposite. I have two step sisters there,

neither of them or any of their friends even considered bfing and when we

went to my nephews birthday at a indoor playground I didn't see one mom

there bfing. All of them had bottles in their diaper bags. When we go to

an indoor playground in Edmonton I see at least a handful of moms nursing

babies. Calgary's also had a smoking room for parents and almost all of the

parents were making trips into that room (including my BIL's), Edmonton

makes no allowances for smoking parents, even my dh (ex-smoker) commented on

that.

I find the differances in the bfing climate interesting considering we have

the same health care system in both cities. Anyway, you can meet my family

and read my bfing story online at the link in my sig line :-)

Well, the u/s tech doing my scan called the baby a " he " , but she did that

before and after she saw the genetalia. Also, there was a student scanning

me and she said she would avoid that " area " so I could not tell what it was.

I told her I probably wouldn't know either way and she told me that I really

would. It seems that boys are easier to see, so I think it's a boy. This

pregnancy has been VERY different from the first two however. We'll see in a

couple of months.

How did you know? Just curious. I am always wrong...

I'm not a but I am a Micki. Around the week that the privates take

their place I broke out with the worst acne -- all over. This is something

I

have never had. I was told this was a reaction from the male hormones in

the

boy. Made sense to me. The U/S confirmed that it is a boy.

Wow! Sounds terrible to me. Aren't you glad you didn't have to deal with

that all the time? I never had any skin problems with my boy pregnancies and

I don't right now either. My friend has an interesting link to a gender quiz

for expectant moms. I'll try to get it.

Louise- Welcome, welcome! I just know that you're going to love this list!

My name is and I'm a happily married SAHM to 3 kids. We recently

experienced a miscarriage, but we're in the process of trying for our 4th. I

am still nursing my 21 mo old, and if the timing was right, could also tandem

nurse another baby. Take care and put your feet up! S.

Hi Everyone!

I am a new member. I thought I would drop a note to introduce myself.

I am pre-op awaiting a surgery date with Dr. Reines @ NWH. I had my

consultation last week and that appointment confirmed my belief that

this surgery will really help me. I have done quite a bit of research

on WLS and I cannot wait to be " on the other side. "

I am doing this for health reasons as well as for my children. I have

2 daughters, 4 and 1, both of whom dserve to have a mother who can

play with them and be around for a very long time. My husband and

family a very supportive. I would love to hear from anyone, at any

stage in this journey. There is always more to learn!

Hi !

Welcome to the group. We're a really friendly bunch, and the

people on this list are some of the most supportive I've ever met.

Feel free to ask any questions, as there is a wealth of info and experience

here, and no subject seems to be taboo LOL.

Take care,

Fortune
