Guest guest
Hi Michal, > We are going into the 8th or 9th week on the diet . all of the >sudden this week, I noticed that my son has been eating a ton (when >we first started he barely ate at all). I was lifting him up today and I couldn't believe it-he really put on weight. He was not fat to begin with but also not one of these children that have always had a problem keeping weight on.I t am trying to understand what's going on. The more we are on the diet, the more open he is to eating and trying new foods. For example 3 weeks ago, he wouldn't try nuts. This weekend he had a hand ful pf pecan and cashews. He has also started eating the almond pancakes and cinnamon cookies (which by the way, are great!!). Has anyone had this experience? I know it's a good sign that he is eating better but do you think it's ok that he';s putting on some weight? Unless he is overweight, it shouldn't be a problem. Since on SCD my kids have gained more weight. They don't look much different except the bloated bellies are gone and they feel more " solid " . > My son's stools have been progressuvekt getting better but the >more we are on SCD, the more it looks like he is really struggling >when he goes. He looks like it really hurts him., My son sees Dr. >Krigsman who scoped him and diagnosed him with colitis last >summer. He always asked me if I saw the " universal signs " for pain >when my son went to the bathroom and honestly I could never say I >saw anything aside from the loose and discolored stools. Now I see >the signs for pain. Has anyone had this experience? Any thoughts? Whole nuts and especially whole cashew shouldn't be tried until substantial healing has taken place. The pecans will have gas forming skins and the cashew have more harder to digest starches than the other nut varieties. Did the pain start about the time he had the whole nuts or before this. You may want to pull back on the nut products a little, avoid the whole nuts for now (until he has had more healing) and probably add more cooked veggies and fruits to his diet. Are you using any form of probiotic or yogurt? Sheila 40 mos SCD, 20 yrs UC mom of SCD 25 mos
