We went to the mall today. It was one of THOSE days. We went into a buffet

type restaurant where Trevayne proceeded to scream bloody murder. All eyes were

on us and I just wanted to yell....Stop staring you idiots! You look as

ridiculous as he does with your superior looks on your faces with the can't you

control the brat shake of the head! You want to get this kid in control

yourself have at it! ARRRGH People!

In general we do pretty well on outings they all get stimmy except Chenoa of

course but the stimming really doesn't bother me that much.

Now I must go clean the carpet as t he cat has crapped on it.

My mom got shirts from Autisticwear.com for the whole family. They're great!

She got my favorite for Brittney, too... " I'm Autistic What's your excuse? "

Ok, I get the husband not letting you but what difference does your MIL's

opinion make? Ok that was nasty sounding. Sorry.

I have usually ignored people but at times I have been compelled

(after the comments) to say " excuse me, my daughter has autism " !

Most people have no clue what that actually entails but it shuts them

up anyway.

I have seriously been considering getting some cards in the last few

weeks before her teacher hit her she was so confident, but now she is

so afraid when we are outdoors.

She now has stranger anxiety, and is still even anxious about the

people she knows.

If anybody so much as talks to her she melts down hides her head and

screams " I don't need to see him " (whatever sex-always him)

Two different woman picked her glove up after she dropped it while we

were out and she was petrified when they tried to hand it back.

At times like that the cards would be good, because even those people

who were just being kind must have thought 'what the hell did I do

wrong'?

There is no way we are going to get Liesel back into another school

after this!

I just try not to take the kids to many places any more

See, for me I refuse to stay home with the fear that my kids will go off in

public and they have many many times. I figure it this way I have as much right

to be out as anyone else with my kids and if people are uncomfortable with the

way my kids act sometimes that's their problem. I do get annoyed sometimes

because they are so ready to judge but don't think of how rude THEY are by

staring or making uncalled for comments. I have thought of the shirts or the

cards but I don't think DH would go for it he would say we don't need to

advertise the fact. Anyway...

Nope, not nasty sounding at all, at least I didn't take it that way! LOL!!

:-)

She's ingrained herself in our lives WAY TOO MUCH, and I'm trying to figure

out how to get her to back off, without hurting her feelings and without

having miss out on a Grandma. She's the type that if she gets

ticked off, she'll hold a grudge forever. While I doubt she'd keep herself

from seeing for too long, I'd rather have the family " together "

without problems, so I bite my tongue most of the time. :-( Working on

asserting myself without pissing people off.

Why not?

Are they worried about what people will think? Do they think it will reflect

badly on ?

Georga,

I have the transfer made up for , but hubby and MIL won't let me make

the shirt. :-( All you need is a white t-shirt the iron on transfer paper

for the printer. Lots cheaper than ordering them. :-)

Probably, but I think I may do it anyway, just to be a bitch! :-) I just

have to find a decent weight, white t-shirt. Had some from Osh Kosh, but

they shrank up too small. There was also one that said " Know Me, Know

Autism " which I thought was cute too.

That's my attitude. I have taken the kids everywhere from day one.

melted down in a major variety store one day when she was 9. I

thought the store was going to call children's services on me. But I

take them out anyway. And if I get too fed up with the looks and

comments, I tell the person staring " Would you like me to tattoo 'I'm

AUTISTIC' on her forhead? " It usually embarrasses them far more than

it does me.

I think my husband would go for the t-shirts.

For those interested there are some really cool political statement

type t-shirts at the Mom's on a Mission for Autism website. I know

politcal isn't necessarily cool here but there is a t-shirt there for

our autistic gems that reads

" I may not be able to understand what you're saying to me.I may have

severe temper tantrums. I may have some odd behaviors.I am not

Naughty or Spoiled, I have Autism.www.momsonamissionforautism.org "

I just got the 3 I ordered, the one above for JR and two of the

Silent Epidemic t's. We went out to dinner tonight in our new t's all

though most didn't say anything there were a lot of looks and that's

cool. Getting the message relayed is the only way to get people to

accept our kids.

I can't wait until they restock the " Mercury Is " t-shirts.

Deb,

I really liked those too, but Matt's too small for the smallest size, and

I'm too big for the biggest size. :-( That's why I have to make my own. I

do like them though.

I know, but for some reason I didn't think of that. DUH! I think would

get mad at me if I put that shirt on the kids too (make one up for him. LOL),

but it would be funny (society sucks)

I am in the possition that I don't go out without my husband (I don't drive,

working on that finally...long story, but I did at one point). hates

going into stores and such so he is more than willing to sit in the car with the

kids. The few places that we take the kids in we both go in. For some reason I

have noticed that we get fewer looks when the kids are acting up with both

parents there. For the life of me I DO NOT understand that one.

Sounds like something I would do. Buster rarely has any episodes in

public, but I've had strangers come up and ask me, what's *wrong* with

him, because he flaps his arms or does his speak. I love overhearing

people talk about him, they usually get an attitude from me.

People stare at too, especially if we go to the

city where no one knows us. I deal with it by ignoring

them or by looking them in the eye and giving them a

big smile. I find it works better than a dirty look

and embarrasses them so that they stop staring.
