Dear ,

I don't find that an odd question. Everyone here seems to have Nf2 "differently". So it effects us differently. So our limitations and abilities would be differently.

My mom worked until she went completely deaf.

My sister, , is deaf in one ear and works as a registered nurse.

My sister, Carolyn, works as a cosmotologist. She works part time. She tires easily. I don't know how much of that is from NF2 or chasing 3 kids.

I used to do book keeping but it seems like between operations and the medicine I take I could NOT work and care for my kids and maintain my home. I tire SO easily. Plus, working numbers in my head don't seem to flow as easy. I now do my checkbook on my computer.

If all goes well maybe I will enter the work force again in a couple of years when both of my girls will be in school full time.

Blessings,

First Basic Question

Hello, all. I've been lurking since being diagnosedwith NF2 last month and I have to say, a lot of theinfo on the group is very helpful. It's all stillpretty overwhelming and I'm sure I'll have somespecific medical questions soon. However, what I want to know right now is whateveryone does for work. I'm getting overly concernedwith medical details in my own early research. I wantto know what you all do in your ordinary lives to gainsome perspective on what life might be like from hereon out.Hope this doesn't sound too weird but, like I say, what I need right now is some perspective. If youdon't want to post to the group, feel free to mail medirectly (thomaspratt01@...)Thanks, Pratt===== Pratt thomaspratt01@... Hello ....I worked out of the home up until 2 years ago. I now am at home full time. I do E-bay, cane chairs, and do one-of-a-kind fashion makeovers on dolls. I tire easily and have chronic pain so could not continue having a shop in the antique business because of the lifting and long hours. But I like what I do at home.

Hi ,

I'm a seismic analyst. I spend my week locating earthquakes that occur all

around the world. So far NF2 has not affected my career, since the only

problem I have is hearing loss.

Hi :) You dont need a medical Q to post here:) Being one of the

lucky few is enough:) Feel free to pop off about anything you want because

most things do affect NF2ers. Sometimes the stress of it seems so very hard

to take. BUT, we are all good listeners here, and we know what your going

thru. As for my work, Im a housewife and Mother. Keeps me hopping to the

extreme:) The employment options for crewbies run the gauntlet tho, each

person being affected to a different degree. Some are Drs even:) So as

long as you can keep it up doing what your doing, do it:) Dont be shy

about posting either, ~~Lowi

Hi ,

I stopped work just one year ago. I was a transcription typist for Hennepin

County Children and Family Services in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I really

enjoyed my job, but I was just getting too tired. My energy level sure is

not what it used to be!

I still go to the health club every single morning though. Swimming used to

be my favorite exercise, but due to some seizure problems, the doctors say

no more swimming. So now I jog on the treadmill, use the eliptical trainer,

and ride the exercise bike. I love all that exercise and hope to continue

doing it for as long as I can!

Good luck with everything! Keep a positive attitude! It sure has helped me

a lot!

Diane

Hi

Up until December I worked as a webmaster for a couple of dot-coms. They

blew up and I was laid off (non NF2 related), I still do some freelance work

but am currently seeking another position :)

No, not everyone.

My mom has it. She had 5 daughters. 3 of us have it.

My sister Becky has two kids and both of them have it.

My sister Carolyn has three kids and one has thus far. The other two are too young to tell without genetic testing.

I have two children. My oldest one had an MRI last year and it was clear. We keep praying it stays that way. My youngest one has yet to be tested.

Blessings,

I own an air conditioning company and am active in the day to day of the

business. I was just diagnosed in Oct 2001. I am working now to get the

company so it doesn't take as much of my attention. All the time doing

things in preparation of selling out when the situition dictates.
