Tracey, expander thing is funny. I have " kids " to expand as kidney stones. My

kidney stones were so excited about Christmas this year. They are 5, 7, and 9

years old. lol :)

Ever have a patient get hit by a carotid? (I know I shouldn't really use

that--CAR being a word to expand-- but it's OK, I see it.)

I used to use Instant Text and had it 'compile' a dictionary. I worked for

prisons, as well as psych hospitals. So, when I did compilation 'shopping' came

up (agoraphobics) and shooting was also in there. So, I always had to be

careful not to put, " She went shooting with her mother last night at the mall. "

On the subject of expanders -- I learned a new trick a while back from Betsy

Ertle of SpeedType fame, which you could incorporate to help solve the

problem -- she uses (and I have adopted the process), i.e. if (using your

example) you have car=carotid, you can use carx=car (in other words no

expansion). This sure helps me out a lot. I also use copd=chronic

obstructive pulmonary disease but copdx=COPD. I know with SpeedType (and

most other programs I have used) that you can go over and press an arrow key

to stop the expansion and there are other tricks to accomplish this -- but I

have found this method of adding an " x " or some other simple item to

accomplish the same thing.

Sorry, this was soo... long, but hopefully everyone gets the idea.

I actually do it the other way around... copd is COPD, copdx is chronic

obstructive pulmonary disease. But hey.. whatever works for you :)
